Assignments updated in InCopy not being updated well in InDesign

We have an InCopy problem at our office. We have InDesign CS5 (version 7.0) and InCopy CS5 (version 7.0) in use.

My colleagues make their edits in the assignments via InCopy, and I update the assignment with InDesign

But lately, it turned out a few of the latest edits were not printed in the final document.

For some reason, some assignments just don't seem to update. Most go fine, lucky enough! What could be the problem of the few that do not get updated although the content of the assignments have changed? I can see in the links panel the assignments have been updated. But somehow the new content will not get incorporated for a few of those assignments.

Is there batch Import function in InCopy

I was able to batch export all stories to RTF from InCopy using a script provided by InCopy (Window- Untilities- Scripts- Export All stories).

Is here a way to batch import stories (RTF files) back into InCopy into the same frames they were exported from?

InCopy changes are not updating assignments in InDesign?

I work for a magazine and have been having trouble with InCopy and InDesign. When the editor changes any text in InCopy, it sometimes does not appear on my end in the InDesign file. When I open the document and the message: "This document contains links to sources that have been modified. You can updated the modified links now, or update them later using the Links Panel." , I hit "update links" and either it just doesn't or everything disappears. How and why would this be happening? Is there some kind of setting I'm missing?

Has anyone come across to a similar situation?

How To Stop Two People Editing Same Text

Hi

We're just starting to use InCopy with InDesign in our office.

We're finding that InCopy isnt letting us know when someone else is currently editing text.

Can we set InCopy to display who is currently editing the text by showing their username? (the frame as icons are not showing for anyone)

Can we set InCopy to only allow one person at a time to checkout a text box?

Many thanks,

David

Font compatibility issues between InCopy and InDesign

My co-worker works in InDesign and assigns me stories to work on in InCopy. I then open them on my machine and make my edits. When he opens them again, all of the text in the story I've edited is highlighted in pink, indicating that there is an error. He then has to change the font back to what it should be. We are trying to use the font Georgia, and we both have the same version of the font installed and both are Open Type font files. I'm not doing anything to change the fonts--just editing the text. Has anyone encountered this same problem? (Note: the text I've edited isn't the only text that ends up highlighted in pink. It's ALL text in the story, even if all I've done is add a comma to a five-paragraph story.)

Background info, just in case:

Co-worker (InDesign user): On a Mac with the Yosemite 10.10.1 OS

Me (InCopy user): On a PC with Windows 7 Professional OS

Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thanks.

Need Video Tutorials: InCopy

There are no easy overview/intro videos I can find anywhere on 1. What is InCopy? 2. How can I begin to work in InCopy? I need something quick and easy to watch for my marketing team to get them interested in streamlining our editing process.

Search/Find linked text files

I want to do a search/find on the linked text in a large file. I'm unable to so without unlinking all the text, or searching the articles individually. Does anyone know whether there is a way to do this without unlinking the text files?

Resize Incopy text boxes

Can an editor resize a text box within InCopy? We have a table with rows. If copy oversets in the last row, all the copy in that row disappears. I realize they can resize the cell itself and most times we wouldn't want to allow resize of the text box but we do in this instance. We are using CS3.

InCopy vs. Indesign

I am currently considering whether to purchase the Indesign program or merely "settle" with the InCopy version.

Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?

Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks & brgds

Insert "fake" index markers in InCopy, then create "real" index markers in InDesign

I want my editors to control the index entries in our publication. But in InCopy it doesn't seem to allow you to add Index markers.

So, what is the best way for my editors to insert "fake" index markers in the  InCopy doc, which I could then use to insert "actual" index markers in InDesign?

Copy assignment structure to a new document

I lay out a biweekly newspaper and we keep a consistent layout from one week to the next.  After each issue, I duplicate and rename the original file, delete all the content and then input the new content from Word documents (my workflow does not currently incorporate InCopy).  I want to set up InCopy so that each story has its own assignment, and writers can submit stories directly into my layout.  Is there a way to not have to reassign each text box to an assignment after copying the file?  Ideally I would like to duplicate both the InDesign document and the InCopy assignment folder, and then point InDesign to a new directory.

I am using InDesign CS5.5, and InCopy CS6 on both Macs and PCs.  The InCopy files are located on a college network over which I have minimal privileges.

Thanks for your help

Incopy crashes when opening large Indd-files

We are publishers of a magazine. One layouter on Indesign, and two writers on Incopy. What happens frequently is, that after a while, when the Indd-file becomes fairly big, Incopy stalls on opening the file. Sometimes it opens it in text-mode, but we can't switch to layout-mode. But mostly we don't even come that far. Right now, we are unable to open the file at all under Incopy. We have NO idea how to troubleshoot this, and it's seems independent of size, because we can open other large files. But it regularly happens with our magazine, once the file gets filled with graphics. Is there a log-file that would give us a clue what is happening?

Adobe InCopy keeps crashing

The error I get when I launch InCopy CS6 is: Adobe InCopy is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InCopy to recover work in any unsaved InCopy documents. <Return to Finder> Just two weeks ago we resolved an issue with the serial number. It was resolved, but now InCopy crashes.

Adobe Indesign CC to Adobe InCopy - Story Format is Not Compatible with this Assignment

I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.

First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.

1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.

2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.

3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.

4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.

These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?

I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.error message.JPG

error message2.JPG

This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.

InCopy crashes on open

One of our users is having issues with her Adobe InCopy app on her new laptop. When opened the app simply crashes, 'InCopy has stopped working' error appearing over the window. It will then close down and continue to show the same message if we try to open it. We have tried uninstalling the App and Creative Cloud entirely to no effect. As to why this is happening we have no idea. We have another user using the exact same laptop on the desk next to hers, we use an image to make sure all machines are set up the same, and he is having no issues at all with Creative Cloud or InCopy. As said before, we have tried reinstalling Creative Cloud directly from the Adobe website, using her login account for it, and it did not stop the error.

I want to start using InCopy with my team, but we are on InDesign CS5. Can I get a copy of InCopy that's compatible? There's no mention anywhere on the Adobe website about compatibility between versions of InDesign and InCopy.

Incopy error: Unable to check out file. May be in use by someone else. Help!

We are a group of editors who have been using InDesign and InCopy for several years. We send InCopy assignment packages to one another by email - no central server involved.

We have an experienced editor who has opened a package, edited the content and saved it, then gone back in to the assignment files with the intention of resuming his work - a process we are all familiar with. On this occasion he is unable to check out the content he needs to edit, getting the error message I have placed in the subject line.

I have searched widely inside and outside Adobe.com but cannot find any advice on how to get around this problem.

Help!

We are using CS5 software under various versions of OS X.

Useful InCopy Resources?

I'm new to InCopy, but I have some experience in InDesign.  I've recently taken an interest in InCopy, specifically for my editing work, and wish to learn more about how it works in conjunction with InDesign and how I can best utilize the Story and Galley views.  However, I've noticed that while there are an abundance of InDesign resources, blogs, and websites on InDesign, there are very little on InCopy.  Can you recommend any useful resources for getting started?  I already have subscriptions to Lynda and InCopySecrets.

Is InCopy CC2017 Compatible with InDesign CC2015?

Can I set up a digital production workflow that incorporates the Creative Cloud subscription version of CC2017 InCopy (Mac) with a designer using CC2015 InDesign (Mac) and a writer using a stand-alone version of InCopy (PC)?

Trying to export all notes to PDF

Hopefully someone here can help me... this is a problem we've had for several years and I would like to find a solution for it.

We are currently doing a project with a client that requires K4. The editors and our comp operators are communicating using Notes.

For billing purposes as well as tracking purposes, I open the ID CS2 files with IC CS2 and export the files as PDFs. After I select Export..., I make sure in the Layout view that I check "Include Notes as Annotation".

The problem we are having is that not all the notes get exported. There is no rhyme or reason to this. I've looked at this from every angle I can think of and can't come up with a solution.

The ID files that our client sends back are heavily annotated, so if not all the notes are exported, I have to make screenshots of the ones missing. I just had a file with 66 notes and only 40 exported, so having to make screenshots of 26 notes is very time consuming.

Has anyone else had this problem? Were you able to fix it? Help!!!
