PLEASE HELP Ignore Text Wrap Incopy
InCopy crashes when packaging for InDesign
InDesign (CS3) with much newer InCopy
Aloha,
If a file is created in InDesign (CS3) and then sent to an editor who is using a much newer version of InCopy (CS6 or Newer)...once the file is saved by the editor, will the designer in CS3 be able to open the edited file?
Incopy to InDesign font problem
Hi, I'm new to Incopy so please bear with me. I've got a layout in InDesign, and I've got a Text in Incopy (which is formatted with specific font/pt/lineheight/etc.). When I place this Incopy file into the InDesign layout, an error message pops up saying that some of the fonts could not be found and will be replaced by default fonts. What can I do in Incopy so that the correct formatting will be applied in InDesign?
how to correctly update .indd files with incopy through adobe cc
Hello,
We have a group of users in our company that only have incopy. This is done both for a control (no one changes layouts by accident) and for cost savings of not haveing the full suite for every user.
With this environment we have found that...
After any change to text via incopy, a person with adobe InDesign will need to open the file and update links so the .indd file will reflect the text changes.
This will need to happen after proofing or any other editorial changes along the way. This adds many steps to our workflow.
Ex:
Alyssa is editing a sustainability article with incopy (no indesign). She makes her edits and save the contents (copy fits, remove a punctuation etc). However, when viewing the .indd file in adobe CC, her changes are not reflected.
Bill (indesign user) had to open the file with InDesign, click update links (this is a popup box upon opening) and then save the file again, before the file would reflect the text changes.
Does anyone know of a way to get around this? It would be great if incopy could push the text changes to the .indd file without a seperate step.
Thank you,
Andy
Page Positioning Print Options
Hi,
InDesign has print options for Page Positioning under "Print > Setup > Options >> Page Position".
This allows for centering the printed objects on the page. EG Print an A4 document on A3 paper and have a wide area around the content for users to write on.
Is there something similar in InCopy for printing the "Layout View"? I've looked but have been unable to find anything useful.
InCopy Missing Fonts
I am not an InDesign/InCopy user so my knowledge is limited. A division of our company is adding InCopy to InDesign CS5 to control workflow. I have been called in to help troubleshoot an issue with missing fonts using InCopy.
Example: Mac User (A) creates a layout using InDesign CS5 and saves to network share. We have tested this with or without creating assignments.
Mac User (B) opens layout using InCopy and receives "Missing Fonts" message.
It is our understanding that InCopy took care of this by the use/integration of the Document Fonts Feature. The Document Fonts folder is created and the fonts in the document are in that folder but it is as if InCopy doesn't know where they are.
1. Are we incorrect thinking that InCopy should take care of this (even though it is a bullet point on Adobe's website as a New feature)?
2. If we are correct, then we must be missing something in our process and would like to know if there are step-by-step instructions to make this work.
I saw the post concerning copying fonts to the InCopy fonts folder to work around font issues between Mac and PC but I thought that was taken care of with this New feature as well.
I appreciate any help someone can offer.
Reflow between Mac/PC even with Adobe fonts.
InDesign to InCopy problems
I am working on a 64 page document in InDesign CS4 (on the Mac) with 7 editors all on PC using InCopy CS4. The InDesign file resides on my desktop and the assignments and stories are on the server. Through lots of trial and error I have figured out how to at least to that.
Tonight as I am on my final draft all of a sudden I got the dreaded red question mark circle on all my assignments (InDesign). Today was the last day for editors to update their information of course. So everyone has been in there. Anyway, I was able to update all the stories associated with the assignments at least I think so, but the assignments all still have the question mark. I checked the server and the assignments seem to be there. I tried to save over them (change assignment location from my mac, )and even rename the assignments but the red question mark remains.
When I try to update all assignments I get a message that "One or more assignments could not be updated, please check the path for these assignments and try again.
My server may have dropped me for a short while tonight but it is up and running now. Any ideas?
I don't really want to unlink all the assignments in case anyone was tracking changes as they are supposed to. We are less than a week from press time. What do you suggest, I do?
Thank you in advance.
Holly
Incopy Preview in Bridge
Does anyone know how to make Incopy stories preview in Bridge. Currently, when I look at my Incopy stories in Bridge, I see a preview of the first page of the Indesign file. I actually need to see a preview of the Incopy story.
This is not a valid InDesign Interchange document
Hello ,
I am having an issue with a file in InCopy. I am opening in InCopy CC a .indd file that was created in Adobe InDesign CC. After opening the file i go to file and select "Check Out". When i do that i get an error that says "This is not a valid InDesign Interchange document"
I have seen some post about this error but they are related to much earlier versions of incopy & indesign. I am still fairly to new these products so i am grateful for any help.
Thanks
Wifi clashes with Incopy
Hi.
I'm having this problem where I can't work on Indesign CS6 files in Incopy CS6 while I'm connected to wifi. Opening a file takes several minutes, and when it's open I can't save, or Incopy crashes. After going through this several times, with immense frustration, I realized that if I disconnected, everything worked as it should.
The Indesign documents I work with are downloaded from an ftp, and it was suggested that quitting the ftp client – Cyberduck – would help. It didn't. The technician who suggested it thought that Incopy was somehow trying to open documents from the ftp, instead of from my desktop.
I'm running wifi through an Air port Extreme with the help of an Express.
I don't get these troubles with Indesign, but my clients prefer if use Incopy.
Of course I can do my work as the situation is now, the only trouble is I often need to go on the internet to check addresses and facts, and connecting and disconnecting my wifi all the time is a hassle that I shouldn't need to go through.
Anyone have a solution?
Can´t edit a document created on a Mac
Editor can't access InDesign file through InCopy CC, while designer is in same file with InDesign CC
Hello,
This is the problem we are having
When a designer opens an InDesign file that is stored on a network share through InDesign, and an editor tries to open the same InDesign file through InCopy, the error message “This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it.” is displayed. To get around this issue, the designer must close out of the file in InDesign, and the editor must open the InDesign file in InCopy before the designer reopens the InDesign file using the InDesign application. This issue did not occur in 9.1. Adobe support has stated that files cannot be used at the same time in InCopy and InDesign, but that is the function that the product was designed to accomplish and this issue has never occurred before. The files are stored on a shared network.
Also, when an editor updates an assignment from InCopy and a designer clicks on the updated assignment to update their view from InDesign, the error message “The content is locked and cannot be modified.” is displayed. If the Designer clicks OK, the view is updated as expected. This occurs even is the assignment is NOT checked out by another user.
Finally, if a designer adds or updates a graphic inside of an InDesign file using InDesign while an editor is editing the file using InCopy, the editor using InCopy will not see the update unless they completely close out of the InCopy application and reopen it, which due to the above problems, is not feasible. The only way the file can be updated in InCopy is for the designer to completely close out of the file, for the editors to then close out, and reopen in InCopy, at which point the designer may reopen the file. If some editors are away from their desks at the time of update, the entire process must be repeated in order for them to be able to open the most recent version of the file in InCopy.
This issue appears to be due to a major flaw in the 9.2 version update for InDesign, as none of these issues occurred before the 9.2 update. One computer currently still has the 9.1 version of InDesign at our company, and does not experience these problems we are having with 9.2. We have tested multiple configurations of our network trying to rule out our network as the problem, but the only case in which we don't experience these problems is when we use InDesign version 9.1. Also, we never experienced this problem before the update of InDesign and InCopy to 9.2.
Thanks!
Graham

Is there a way to copy a text box in InDesign(InCopy) without having the two linked?
I am new to InCopy, but my typical InDesign workflow is to create a page layout I like and duplicate spreads or copy text boxes and edit each accordingly. With everything linked in InCopy if i want to copy (say a picture caption to a different picture) then they are both linked and if I changed the copied text box I inadvertently change the original. Is there a way to make the new box have a distinct link?
InCopy lagging/delays perhaps video related?
Some users, and perhaps all, are getting significant amounts of lag or delay, particularly when just typing. One colleague said he was trying to take notes in InCopy while in a phone conversation and he'd finished an entire paragraph before anything appeared on the screen. More typically, the typing can be several characters behind.
On my computer, I'm noticing significant delays in routine procedures -- it seems to take a second or two simply to page up, for example. If I hit save or another dialog window pops up and then disappears, it takes several seconds for InCopy to redraw the area where the windows were.
This is making me think we've got less an InCopy problem and more a video problem. The video drivers are apparently stock with Windows -- Intel built-in video, circa 2002. Intel apparently issued a number of updates to the drivers (sorry, don't have the model number with me), and I've suggested to IT that they try updating video drivers.
We've also had stability problems: Sometimes InCopy simply crashes without warning; a few times I've seen an MSCVR80.dll module crash reported through Windows. But I'm thinking at least the performance problems are video related.
Is there anything else that might be affecting this? Would, for example, updating DirectX have any bearing on performance? Any other ideas?

InCopy vs. Indesign
Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?
Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?
Hope you can help me out!
Thanks & brgds

Can you add or delete pages in InCopy?
Working with InCopy CS4 on Apple.
Let's say I got an Indesign document with 4 pages. My author can edit the document via InCopy. Now he needs 2 more pages because his text gets longer. Is there any way he can add the necessary pages in this document by himself in InCopy or let InCopy automatically add as many pages as necessary (like Word would)? Or does he have to ask me to add the pages in Indesign?
And vice versa: Can the author in any way delete unnecessary pages?
Thanks
Error Message: "Unable to lock the following files" when Checking Out Assignment
I'm an editor working with a designer who, based on the tutorials we've read/watched, has properly prepared and exported an InDesign file for me to edit. When I try to check out the assignment, though, I get an error message reading "Unable to lock the following files: [file path]." The designer can check in and out fine, but I can't. Any advice?
How To Stop Two People Editing Same Text
Hi
We're just starting to use InCopy with InDesign in our office.
We're finding that InCopy isnt letting us know when someone else is currently editing text.
Can we set InCopy to display who is currently editing the text by showing their username? (the frame as icons are not showing for anyone)
Can we set InCopy to only allow one person at a time to checkout a text box?
Many thanks,
David
