text wrap not displaying in incopy, but is there in indesign???

$

Hi, I am using the latest version of incopy  / indesign, and for the life of me, I can't work out why the text wrap won't display correctly in incopy. The editorial just sits behind the picture, not giving the editor a true representation of the layout designed in indesign. I have tried uninstalling / re-installing the programme, and still doesn't work. The files are stored on one drive, so editor uses them remotely, but when I open the files up locally, they still are not showing the text wrap.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Steve

Using InCopy remotely

How do I use InCopy with a client at the other end of the country? Lynda.com (online course) says you need to be on the same 'server' as other people using the file but the client is in Birmingham and I am in London. The client tried to share files with me via OneDrive but that didn't work- the file just downloads, I can't work on it inside 'ONd Drive' I managed to contact Adobe about a week ago for a 'chat' but don't seem to be able to find a way to do that now - I just go round in circles on the website. I was supposed to get a transcript of that 'chat' but it never arrived and anyway the person I 'chatted' with didn't have any positive advice. Where do I go from here?

What is a file with the extension .injb?

When packaging an InCopy file, a new file appears in the same folder as the .inca file with the extension .injb. What is this? Is it a lock file for the .inca?

Need help automating something in InCopy

A few of our editors are looking for a way to have a predetermined line of text added to a story via a shortcut key. For example "if you would like to comment please write us at example@eg.com". We are using XP pro and InCopy CS5. I'm not familiar with scripting but if there is a way to do it using scripts I am not opposed to learning it.

Incopy error: Unable to check out file. May be in use by someone else. Help!

We are a group of editors who have been using InDesign and InCopy for several years. We send InCopy assignment packages to one another by email - no central server involved.

We have an experienced editor who has opened a package, edited the content and saved it, then gone back in to the assignment files with the intention of resuming his work - a process we are all familiar with. On this occasion he is unable to check out the content he needs to edit, getting the error message I have placed in the subject line.

I have searched widely inside and outside Adobe.com but cannot find any advice on how to get around this problem.

Help!

We are using CS5 software under various versions of OS X.

Single Page view - File in spread

Hi all,

is it possible in inCopy to view a file in single pages instead of in spread?

Even if the inDesign file is made in spread?

thanks

Unable to open InCopy file I closed yesterday: unclosed token error.

I have not been able to find anything on this issue. I am using InCopy CS5 (7.0.4). I am preparing stand-alone InCopy files for InDesign layout. In other words, these files are not part of InCopy workflow.

When I try to open a file I closed yesterday, I get the error message: unclosed token.

No options to restore the file. Nothing. I guess I have to kiss that file good-bye.

Any suggestions?

Note: I must first say that InCopy CS5 has got to be one of the most unstable pieces of software I have ever used. It has crashed nearly once an hour since I started this project. (Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of InCopy/InDesign. There is no better way to integrate xml into the publishing cycle, for example.) But as an example of the unstable behavior, I will be copying and pasting text from one place to another when the beach ball will start spinning. Then InCopy crashes. In a few minutes, the crash report window appears. After answering the various dialog boxes, my file(s) come back.

Plugin error

i've been getting an error since installing InCopy CS3. At one point i had CS4 installed, but the program with which i'm using InCopy requires CS3. CS4 has been uninstalled.

error:

Cannot load Assigment UI.InDesignPlugin because it requires InCopy Bridge. Please install the InCopy Bridge plug-in and restart Adobe InCopy.

Both of these plugins are THERE, but it's not recognizing them for some reason. I've uninstalled/reinstalled/updated the whole CS3 package, and it didn't help.

PLEASE HELP! i have to have this to work!

Error messages when using InCopy packages

$

I have an editor who travels a lot, and is having consistant problems with using the packaging workflow in InCopy. I believe some of his problems are human error - but don't have the technical reasons for the error messages. There have also been some error messages received by the artists when they get the package back and try to update the ID file.

We are using CS4 and macs with snowleopard OSs.

Can someone please help to explain what these errors mean below?

1. InCopy User - when opening the icml file (after first opening the package. Going back to the icml doc for more editing)

" "" could not be found. Do you want to postpone its recovery?

Click YES to recover this document later

Click NO to delete recovery data for this document

Click Cancel to postpone all document recovery til later"

2. InCopy user - when trying to package email back to InDesign user

"This assignment includes missing or modified links. Low resolution versions will be used for the missing items, and the most recently saved versions will be used for modified links. Continue packaging?"

3. InCopy user - when packaging to send to InDesign user by email

"An error message occured when sending this email"

(and then the package was not attached to the email)

- this is recurring often with only one InCopy user

4. InDesign user received the package back and when they tried to open it, an error message said that the assignments couldn't be found and the file wouldn't open. The file name hadnt been changed and we could find no reason why the package wouldn't open. (sorry, the artist didn't screenshot the actual message for this one).

Any help would be a great help - and stop a mutiny by my editors!

.icma vs .icml

When I export all stories from my InDesign file I don't always generate an .icma file. Should there always be an .icma file? I don't understand why it happens sometimes and not other times.

Also, can editors work in either the .icml or  the .icma? Sometimes they tell me that without the .icma they can't see the text file to edit.

Thanks for any clarification you can give on this.

Complicated InCopy Problem/Bug

I setup an InDesign project file (created on a Mac) for InCopy (on a PC). I created the assignment file, exported the stories, added them to the assignment, and then updated the assignment file through InDesign. When the InCopy user opens up the assignment file, some of the stories are unavailable for check out. There is a pencil mark next to the story and a red circle next to it. When I go back into the Indesign file and check the assignment, I noticed all the stories are checked in. Why is it that the InCopy user is unable to checkout those stories?

Some trouble shooting steps I took:
1. Recreated assignment file and stories.
2. Deleted InCopy preferences folder on the PC
3. Opened up individual stories and check them back in
4. Disabled all master page links
5. Both programs have latest updates installed

After completing the trouble shooting steps, the problem still persists.

Any solutions would be great.

Thanks,

Rabel

InCopy notes - randomly switching to upper case

$

Hi

We're using InCopy CS5 and we are starting to experience a random issue in that the notes function switches to running the text in all caps. Try as I might, I can't find what is causing this switch. We're using WoodWIng Smart Connection to route copy back and forth, but I don't think that is doing it. It seems that when a given user opens the file, something happens - either it picks up a preference from the InDesign layout it's placed on, or the user accidentally does something (not sure what) and the preference for the notes gets changed. Once changed, it stays. There seems to be no way to switch it back. You can use the menu command to switch off all caps, but you have to do that every time you create a new note, so it's not applying as a global preference. I heard a vague suggestion that it might be something to do with URLs or similar, but I haven't yet found a way to test that appropriately. If anyone has any idea how to stop this - or what is causing it - I'd be most grateful, as shouting at your colleagues isn't the most conducive way to get changes accepted ... Thanks!

Incopy story list.xml files are being created

$

We have been successfully using an InDesign to InCopy worflow here but have had some mysterious problems happen today. An outside editor (new user to InCopy) has somehow created these "story list.xml" files on the files she has been working on. And now she can't see the story files for the rest of the documents, those 05-08, that she hasn't reviewed yet.

Any ideas on where her working method might be going wrong? We have gone through the method with her and can't see any huge issues, she was right clicking on boxes to check out stories which isn't how we do it, we usually do them all at once). And does anyone know if I can just delete these xml files? The only person who can see the rest of the stories (chapters 05-08, is the designer who originated the files.

InCopy CC17 issues

$

We're having issues with InCopy CC17 crashing while the app is closing.  It's happening on multiple machines, so it's probably not a hardware issue.

I should note, that we just upgraded to CC17 from CS6 and I'm still using my InDesign template and .icml links originally created in CS6, so this could be the issue...

Anyone having similar issues? Is there a fix? Thanks in advance for any help!

What does the error "Unable to lock the following files:" mean? After the colon in this error message, a path to the .icml file is listed. We are using InDesign CS4 with InCopy CS4 (Mac), layout based workflow, on a shared server. Thanks, Brett

InCopy slowness - Import Snippet

$
0
0

Hi all,

Why is InCopy so slow at opening flies?

No matter whether we work over the server, or completely locally when testing between InDesign and InCopy on my Mac; Opening InCopy Assignments is incredibly slow.- so it's nothing to do with network speed.

When opening an InCopy Assignment in InCopy, the progress bar seems to go smoothly until it gets up to the "Import snippet" bit of the process, it then stalls there for ages, before finally opening the file. Sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes to open 1 assignment (sometimes more but we usually force quit the application before it gets to that).

Could somebody shed some light on the "Import Snippet" part of the import/open process? Maybe the slowness i'm experiencing is something to do with my extensive use of Paragraph and Character styles in my InDesign documents?

I am not using any sort of linked Word Documents, Excel files etc. All my images in these test files are low res JPEG's. I do have a couple of Vector graphics copied and pasted from Illustrator in there, though i've tried deleting them and mit makes no difference. The fonts i'm using are Calibri and Cambria.

I'm using both Mac and PC with OS X 10.5.7 and Windows XP respectively. Both use InCopy and InDesign 6.0.3. I'm running an 8 core G5 with 4GB of RAM in my tests.

Thanks,

James

This randomly happens with no rhyme or reason.  We are editing an InCopy document and inline notes get stuck in all caps and it cannot be turned off.  Is there a solution to this?
