Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.
Paragraph & Word Count in InCopy
Why is the helpdesk of Adobe unreachable?
Hi there,
I bought myself a brand-new Apple Mac Book Pro yesterday, the newest... Superhappy
....until I started downloading programs from CC.
Trying for hours, It did not not work.
I tried to contact Adobe, but, what a frustrating experience was that.
I was on the Phone for over 30 minutes, listening to elevator music, not having any idea of when I would be helped.
After 32 minutes I gave up.
Trying the chat: same result.
So good as your pragramms are, so bad is your customer service.
Please Adobe, improve your helpdesk, it realy doesn't suit the brand.
greetings Barbara
InDesign Lock for InCopy Editors
I'm working on a live project hosted on a central server. My editing keeps shifting design. How can the designers lock down their work so this does not keep happening? It's freaking me out.
InCopy/Indesign workflow issues
I have an InCopy/Indesign collab workflow question.
Myself (designer) and a colleague (writer) are trialling using InCopy 6 with InDesign CS5.5. There seems to be issues with the InDesign document refreshing once the writer has made changes using InCopy, and vice versa. We are working on the same server. .icml files don't seem to give alerts in InDesign that they need to be updated.
Can anyone see any reasons why this may be happening?
Missing Plug-ins - Package And Preflight.APLN from InDesign Document
If a user creates a file in InDesign CC and then tries to open it in InCopy CS6 they get the following error.
Missing Plug-ins, Cannot Open File
PACKAGE AND PREFLIGHT.APLN
The Doument "filename.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
This happens whether the copy of InCopy is on the same PC as InDesign or a seperate PC without InDesign. InCopy is installed seperately from the CC.
Clicking OK opens the file normally.
We have checked that both versions of the software match at v8.0.2.
I've heard it might be due to embedding of this file but the designers say they are not yet at the stage of packaging this file when they get this error so nothing should be embedded.
Can anyone help?

Can't save content as rtf
Hi,
I am trying to save all my stories in an assignment into a text document for editing. According to the Incopy manual I go File>Save content as>. But this option is grayed out on the menu, as are all the save options. Export to rtf only exports the current story not all stories into one document.
I have only the trial version of Incopy cc at the moment. Perhaps this is the problem? But nothing else seems to be disabled in the trial. I have tried reinstalling to no avail.
Any help much appreciated.
InCopy and InDesign can open the same assignment at the same time
Can anybody help me? In InDesign I have created assignments. When the copy writer checks them out, the InDesign Assignments Palette does not update to show that they are checked out and are unavailable to me to edit. Instead they remain marked as available and I am able to check them out at the same time as the copy writer has them open. If the copy writer has multiple assignments checked out, they don't appear as checked out in InDesign until I select ‘Update all assignments’ in the Assignments Palette.
Has anybody come across this before? We can't start using InCopy until this is resolved.
Cheers
CP1252.txt error message
Hello InCopy Community:
I have a new user that has InCopy CS6 (version 8.0.1) installed on their Windows System 7 computer. Most of the time, the software opens the files successfully.
However, on some files the InCopy user receives the following error when opening the document:
"Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall."
"Missing files: \Program Files\Common Files\TypeSupport\...\CP1252.TXT"
We checked the InCopy machines Program Files and Program Files (x86) directories and the CP1252.TXT file appears in both paths.
I also checked the machine running InDesign CS6 (also Win System 7) and the CP1252.TXT file resides in the appropriate paths.
Is anyone familiar with this issue and have a solution?
Your response would be appreciated.
Incopy error: Unable to check out file. May be in use by someone else. Help!
We are a group of editors who have been using InDesign and InCopy for several years. We send InCopy assignment packages to one another by email - no central server involved.
We have an experienced editor who has opened a package, edited the content and saved it, then gone back in to the assignment files with the intention of resuming his work - a process we are all familiar with. On this occasion he is unable to check out the content he needs to edit, getting the error message I have placed in the subject line.
I have searched widely inside and outside Adobe.com but cannot find any advice on how to get around this problem.
Help!
We are using CS5 software under various versions of OS X.
InDesign shuts down...A serious error was detected.
I'm getting this alert after opening an InDesign document and then updating an ".icml" link. I'm having no other issues with InDesign files, only those that have changes made in InCopy.
The document is created using InDesign CS6 and worked on with InCopy CS6 (latest versions). I am able to open the InDesign file as long as I don't update all the links when opening the file. I've tried isolating which ".icml" link is causing the problem without success.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
InCopy in CreativeCloud for Teams
Is it possible to create in the DiskSpace of CreativeCloud for Teams a folder that is only accessible for a CCT InCopy User.
The background of this question is that we would like to equip the Studio with several InDesign Layout designers and equip some of the customers with a InCopy CC for Teams.
Per customer we would create a folder where the proofing and correction can be made in InCopy, without this customer seeing other customers work....
Thanks
'Unable to Lock File' when attempting to check out InCopy text from ID CS3!
The InCopy file (incx) is created by the editor (using InCopy CS3 on a Mac). He puts the .incx file onto a remote server (a G5 Mac) where it will stay throughout the duration of the project. I (the designer, using InDesign CS3 on a Mac) can also access this remote server, and I import the .incx file into an InDesign document. All Macs are running OS X 10.4.11.
The Problem:
When I attempt to check out the assignment from the Assignments window, I get the error message "Unable to Lock File..." followed by the path to the .incx file on the mounted remote volume.
If I put the .incx file onto my computer first, then import it, everything works fine. But that scenario won't work for us. The editor needs to be able to edit the text at all times, and we have another designer that will be working on the files as well, so we need to have the .incx file stay on that remote server.
As a test, I did this whole thing using the same files on a Mac running InDesign CS2, and everything worked perfectly, no problems.
What am I missing here? Please tell me that CS3 didn't downgrade the ability to work remotely with InCopy.
Thank you for any help in this matter.
Text flow problem
We're currently trialing CS5.5 ID and CS5.5 IC. When I 'Package for Incopy' and my editor opens the .icap file sometimes the text flows over by a line or two. I thought I'd pinpointed it down to hypenation but it's also returning whole words onto the next line causing the text to overrun the text box. Any suggestions as to why this is happening much appreciated. Thanks.
Automatically update assignment
When you make a new Assigment, you directly see a warning in your panel.
Then You have to choose: Update out-of-date assigment
I don't get htis option.
I just made the assigment, it couldn't be out of date?
I didn't do anything.
Can anybody explane me why you have to do this?
Incopy help - compatibility with Illustrator - thoughts on Incopy?
My department would like to implement Incopy to make our process "more efficient." I have quite a few concerns as we have tight time limits and the extra communication involved will delay the approval of these products.
1. Can Incopy users update charts and graphs made in Illustrator? Is it linked? If this is not linked many of our products produced have charts/graphs and the designers would be the only ones with indesign. Therefore making our workflow a complete mess as the updaters are in charge of the data that goes into the charts/graphs.
2. Can Incopy users add lines to tables as needed? Many times we need the ability to change this as our products change quarterly.
Overall would this product truly be useful for a company where compliance adds and removes text quarterly and thus potentially changing the layout every quarter?
The additonal communication between designers seems unnecessary and would be inefficient when we only have 2 designers on hand. I understand designers wanting control of their designs but unfortunately time matters at a financial institution.
Thoughts on Incopy???
At other places this might work well but I'm very skeptical and apprehensive about this process. Have people used this in marketing?
InCopy CS5 can't open InDesign, InCopy CC can
I have CS5 to CC installed on my machine (MAC). Using indesign CS5 to create a layout then export all stories for inCopy. InCopy CS5 cannot open the indd. CC can... I can open the individual .icml files though. If I use InCopy CC, I can check in > edit > check out and save. InDesign CS5 will be able to re-open. A bit confuse now on why InCopy CS5 can't open InDesign files anymore. Event files created pre CC update. Attached are the errors I get when trying to open with InC CS5. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks.
can incopy users resize/insert/delete the image, and insert a new table/flow chart?
We are thinking a workflow and doesn't know if indesign and incopy can help.
We create a template by indesign, and shared with teams globally. Global users use incopy to change the texts, change images, and might also insert new images/tables/charts for different topics. is it possbile in incopy?
Global users are not designers, having limited skills to operate with inDesign. Is incopy a tool that is suitable for non-art people?
InCopy CS6 and InDesign CS6 workflow
Hi there, I just started a 3 day per week job at an architecture firm. They have about 35 staff, and use Word to format some pretty hefty reports. They are in one column, rather ugly and doesn’t reflect at all the professionalism of the firm.
I’m looking at trying to integrate the workflow, so that they can maybe use InCopy and InDesign together, effectively replacing Word for report use. I’m only in 3 days so it’s impossible for me to use a Word > InDesign workflow with the amount of changes (mostly last minute and to tight deadlines). It just takes too long. The architects and historians need to be able to write these reports themselves, with my skills coming in when it's the final format ready to send to the client.
We have licences for about 5 copies of InDesign CS5 at the moment, and 35 licenses for Word, so we’re looking at the costings and if the InCopy to InDesign workflow would work well for much of the communication here. The report writers use hundreds of images/diagrams in each document, and all these have captions, so I guess it’s important to use an inline compatible design where the users can add images in InCopy and these are brought over to InDesign without too much fiddling around at the end.
The aim is to have the report writers use a collaborative system, but using corporate open type fonts that display well on screen. We are using Trade Gothic, and it doesn't represent on screen very well at all. The report writers hate using it, especially as their zoom size in Word is normally around 90%.. The other problem is the lack of layout optiions with Word. The reports could save hundreds of pages just by using a 2 column system which can save rivers of blank white space within text.
Also we need the ability for the writers to be able to add images and resize/rotate landscape portait format etc.
I’ve downloaded a trial version of InDesign CS6 and InCopy CS6 so am just checking things out and testing it at the moment.
InDesign file saving and exporting S-L-O-W.
I am a designer using the InDesign/InCopy layout workflow. After my last post things were working pretty good for awhile. But now it is taking more than an hour to save over the network. I tried putting everything in the same folder on the network (links and all) and it still took me more than an hour just to relink a placed InCopy story. I am going mad. A week overdue for my first draft and I can't do anything. So today I decided to just use the package workflow to speed things up. However it still takes as long to create assignments even after I have saved the InDesign file and links to my desktop.
Is there any possibility this is caused by using the last document and saving as new name? Even if I have unlinked all assignments and stories first?
I've tried saving as an inx file but I lock up.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Holly
My inCopy won't open
When I try to open up my incopy software, it won't work and tells me that I need to have an active internet connection (which I do). Help!
