incopy layout does not match indesign layout

Hey all,

So I have an InDesign CC2014 file that I exported out to InCopy CC. However, the layout view in no way matches the InDesign layout, having a much larger page size. I have tried to IDML the file and reexport, but with no change in results. The "Update Design" button is also grayed out, no matter how I try to access that feature. What am I doing wrong, and how can I make it match? It is a rather complex book with over 1000+ art links, but that shouldn't prevent a mismatch in files, right? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Font compatibility issues between InCopy and InDesign

My co-worker works in InDesign and assigns me stories to work on in InCopy. I then open them on my machine and make my edits. When he opens them again, all of the text in the story I've edited is highlighted in pink, indicating that there is an error. He then has to change the font back to what it should be. We are trying to use the font Georgia, and we both have the same version of the font installed and both are Open Type font files. I'm not doing anything to change the fonts--just editing the text. Has anyone encountered this same problem? (Note: the text I've edited isn't the only text that ends up highlighted in pink. It's ALL text in the story, even if all I've done is add a comma to a five-paragraph story.)

Background info, just in case:

Co-worker (InDesign user): On a Mac with the Yosemite 10.10.1 OS

Me (InCopy user): On a PC with Windows 7 Professional OS

Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thanks.

Edits have been made to the imported version of ... (How?)

More often than not, when updating in InDesign (CS6) a link to an InCopy (CS6) document edited by an author, I get the warning:

Edits have been made to the imported version of "story_name.icml".
You will lose these edits by updating. Update anyway?

Now I can't see how this can be:

  • I have to check out the document to edit it. While it is checked out to me, the author can't make any edits.
  • Likewise, the author has to check it out to make edits, and during that time I can't edit it.

So how is it possible that edits could have been made to my version that will be lost when I update to the author's latest version?

InCopy keeps crashing when opening a file

I designed an 88-page report in InDesgin CC 2015. After that, my designer helped me exported and files and created an InCopy file for the client to review and edit. We saved all the files in DropBox to share, my designer has no problem opening the InCopy file, but I have no luck. InCopy keeps crashing when I try to open the file. I worry this may happen to our client as well so we've tried many other ways and still couldn't fix the problem. Please help!

My character styles have disappeared

About a week and a half ago, my character styles completely disappeared. They're fine in InDesign, but in InCopy they're just *gone.*

This is what the paragraph styles palette looks like:

Our IT people are stumped. They reinstalled the software to no effect. Does anyone know what could have possibly caused this? Nobody else on the network is having the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any insight you all might be able to give. Please let me know what other information you need to diagnose this.

Much obliged,

Unable to open InCopy file I closed yesterday: unclosed token error.

I have not been able to find anything on this issue. I am using InCopy CS5 (7.0.4). I am preparing stand-alone InCopy files for InDesign layout. In other words, these files are not part of InCopy workflow.

When I try to open a file I closed yesterday, I get the error message: unclosed token.

No options to restore the file. Nothing. I guess I have to kiss that file good-bye.

Any suggestions?

Note: I must first say that InCopy CS5 has got to be one of the most unstable pieces of software I have ever used. It has crashed nearly once an hour since I started this project. (Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of InCopy/InDesign. There is no better way to integrate xml into the publishing cycle, for example.) But as an example of the unstable behavior, I will be copying and pasting text from one place to another when the beach ball will start spinning. Then InCopy crashes. In a few minutes, the crash report window appears. After answering the various dialog boxes, my file(s) come back.

Incopy error: Unable to check out file. May be in use by someone else. Help!

We are a group of editors who have been using InDesign and InCopy for several years. We send InCopy assignment packages to one another by email - no central server involved.

We have an experienced editor who has opened a package, edited the content and saved it, then gone back in to the assignment files with the intention of resuming his work - a process we are all familiar with. On this occasion he is unable to check out the content he needs to edit, getting the error message I have placed in the subject line.

I have searched widely inside and outside Adobe.com but cannot find any advice on how to get around this problem.

Help!

We are using CS5 software under various versions of OS X.

InCopy CC crashes when using track changes

Hi

We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.

We are using the package system.

It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.

If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.

Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.

Thanks

Louise

inCopy files show as checked out when they are not

We're experiencing an issue where some (not all) of the inCopy files cannot be checked out in inCopy or in inDesign.

A user made copy edits in inCopy and closed the files. Now the inCopy user sees the files as checked out by the very same user even though obviously that user does not have them checked out. Plus, the last set of edits don't show either.

The inDesign user cannot check out the inCopy files from inDesign or see the last set of edit Changes. Both users are on the same version of inDesign/inCopy.

We were able to create a new inDesign files using the "Save As" command and then break all the links to that inCopy files, and export new inCopy files. The new inCopy files are behaving normally. Any way to restore normal behavior to the original inCopy files?

InDesign/InCopy Workflow – The content is locked and cannot be modified.

I've been working with an InDesign/InCopy workflow with Dropbox for a while and occasionally get an alert dialogue "The content is locked and cannot be modified" when in InDesign accepting/update InCopy changes made to the document. It seems to be happening more and more recently.

I can click OK, and then the software will allow the changes to be made to the InDesign document. However, I am having instances that InCopy users cannot get back into the document, until all of the content is updated from my end. I doesn't look like we are loosing any editorial changes.

Why does this happen? Is there any way to make it stop?

Thanks!

InCopy Assignments - "The Content is locked and cannot be modified."

$

I've been using Incopy for a magazine we publish every month and since the updates to CC and CC (2014) we seem to have error messages popping up "The content is locked and cannot be modified."

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 11.42.37 am.png

This happens on both sides, for the editor in incopy and for me when I updated content back in InDesign. We both work on Mac OS - remote workflow (packaged assignments), ID 10.1.0.71, IC 10.0.0.70.

Could it be the difference in version numbers? The editor checked and there was no other updates for incopy CC 2014.

While clicking 'ok' on the error message seems to accept edits after all it is a real nuisance, and very confusing/disconcerting.

Any help much appreciated.

need advice from book/journal editors using InCopy at page stages

I am an editorial production manager for a nonprofit publisher of books and journals, and I am a new user of InCopy. I viewed the training videos on Lynda.com and have done two trial projects with our composition team. We would like to use InCopy to allow production editors to key their own changes at different page stages, rather than going back and forth with composition, but we are concerned about quality control with this new workflow.

I understand that editorial changes can be tracked, but from a production editor's perspective, having editorial changes tracked in galley/story view and having no tracking at all of formatting changes is a huge shift in workflow/culture. What are other book and journal publishers doing to ensure that all proofreading and author changes are properly incorporated and that production editors themselves don't introduce editorial or composition errors as they work in InCopy? Without the usual hard-copy history of alterations, how do you check subsequent sets of pages without feeling like you have to read them all over again (not very efficient with a book or journal!). Advice, please, from editors/production editors using InCopy!

EBookExport.InDesignPlugin error on document open

$

Adobe InCopy CS6 8.0 and 8.0.1

Mac OS X 10.8.2, 10.7.4, and 10.6.8.

I have a file that throws a

"Missing plugin

EBookExport.InDesignPlugin

The document "xxx.indd uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently avaiable on your system. Do you want to open it anyway?"

error on document open. This document has been opened on multiple Macs using the all three of the most recent operating systems listed above. Updating InCopy to 8.0.1 did not change anything.

Interestingly, in Extension Manager, EBookExport.InDesignPlugin does not show up in the list as an available plugin. It is in the InCopy applications folder: Applications/Adobe\ InCopy\ CS6/Plug-Ins/Filters/EBookExport.InDesignPlugin It does show up as an InDesign plugin, and it is loaded…

A clean install of InCopy CS6 from the Adobe disc on a new Mac generates the same error when opening the document. Opening the document in InDesign and exporting to idml, then re-opening makes no difference. Same error.

The root issue here is obviously that the extension is not recognized. I changed permisssions on the folder to no avail. As stated earlier, a fresh install on a new iMac and the extension will not load.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

Kevin

Is there a way to copy a text box in InDesign(InCopy) without having the two linked?

$

I am new to InCopy, but my typical InDesign workflow is to create a page layout I like and duplicate spreads or copy text boxes and edit each accordingly. With everything linked in InCopy if i want to copy (say a picture caption to a different picture) then they are both linked and if I changed the copied text box I inadvertently change the original. Is there a way to make the new box have a distinct link?

Help!

I have been attempting to open an InCopy (CS6) file, but it will not open. Instead, I get this error message:

"Not Well Formed"

Is there any way to repair this file? It was checked in and saved normally. If it cannot be repaired, I will lose about 1 month's worth of work because my backup has failed. I would appreciate any guidance

Editor cannot 'check out' InCopy file

$

I'm a novice in InCopy but am learning the ropes, however, am having a problem that I can't figure out. The editor who needs to open/edit the InCopy file says she can't check it out. I don't know what to tell her. She has the .icma and .icml files and I don't see a problem on my end. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
