IC at iPad

Hi, i'm using incopy, indesign and Photoshop at PC.

But I'm still traveling a lot and would like to watch what the collegues in the office did. Is is possible to watch the processing -or only With the help of pdf's?

Edit Text Only in .indd file with inCopy

I write for a print magazine.  I send my copy in as Word files; the copy desk and the art department make nice-looking pages; they send them back to me for final edit as .indd files. Usually, I just have to add or delete words to make it fit the page.  I never touch graphics or layout.

I have a company-supplied copy of inDesign on my company-supplied PC laptop.  I don't like to lug the PC around, so I got a Mac Air and bought my own copy of inCopy.  With it, I can read and print the .indd files just fine on the Mac. I cannot copy-edit them.

What's the simplest thing I can ask the managing editor to do to make it so I can peform that final edit on the Mac iwith inCopy and send him back a file just like what he's used to?

I can't ask him to perform a lot of extra steps just so I don't have to tote around an extra 5 pounds.  And I don't want to call IT's attention to the fact that I'm not using the inDesign seat they're paying for. (Hey, it IS my fallback.)  But I have a feeling that we're already doing things the hard way.

InDesign (CS3) with much newer InCopy

Aloha,

If a file is created in InDesign (CS3) and then sent to an editor who is using a much newer version of InCopy (CS6 or Newer)...once the file is saved by the editor, will the designer in CS3 be able to open the edited file?

Text Macros

I thought I knew where InCopy saves the text macros (C:\Users\myuseraccount\AppData\Local\Adobe\InCopy\Version 9.0\en_US\Caches), based on information I got from an Adobe tech working with us on DPS, but when I copy that whole folder to another user's computer the macros do not show up.

So evidently that is not the correct location where the macros are saved; does anyone know the correct location? And why doesn't InCopy have a way to share the macros or is there a way since multiple people are working on the same document and you think everyone having the same macros would be something just as common as a fish having gills.

Thanks in advance!

InCopy and InDesign can open the same assignment at the same time

Can anybody help me? In InDesign I have created assignments. When the copy writer checks them out, the InDesign Assignments Palette does not update to show that they are checked out and are unavailable to me to edit. Instead they remain marked as available and I am able to check them out at the same time as the copy writer has them open. If the copy writer has multiple assignments checked out, they don't appear as checked out in InDesign until I select ‘Update all assignments’ in the Assignments Palette.

Has anybody come across this before? We can't start using InCopy until this is resolved.

Cheers

InDesign CS5 and InCopy CS3

I work at a weekly newspaper, and we have been using and InDesign/InCopy workflow for several years. The Reporters use InDesign CS2 (never did get around to installing the CS3 upgrades we bought because at first the computers they use wouldn't handle it, and after the computer upgrades got done all around, no one ever bothered). After the stories are written, the editor reviews them in InCopy, then releases them to the page designers who are now working in InDesign CS3 as part of Standard and Premium Suites.

We are considering upgrading to InDesign CS5, but absolutely NONE of the reporters or the editor needs (or will ever use) the listed improvements included in InCopy CS5. Since there are nine InCopy products in the office, and as everyone knows the economy sucks - especially for PRINTED NEWSPAPERS these days, we really hate to have to upgrade just for upgrades sake.

I have downloaded InDesign CS5 trial to check if our CS3 files will open and work in it, after reading an article published in the Washington Newspaper, a publication put out by the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association, reported that one of the state's newspapers happily upgraded to CS5 and had a nightmare of problems just opening their CS4 files. This has my editor very nervious about us upgrading. So... I'm testing it out, and I can't place, then open and edit our CS3 Incopy Files. I get a message that says "this story needs toa be converted to "InCopy Document" format to edit it. I've saved it in InCopy CS3 to both incx and incd formats, and both receive the error. Has Adobe made simple InCopy files incompatible with InDesign? I can import files from just about everywhere BUT InCopy??? The Sister Program?

Please advise a simple work around, or I'll bet our upgrade is totally put off.

Problems with Nested Styles

I'm trying to create a nested style in In Copy CS5. What I want for it to do is to create the first few words with a certain character style then revert back to the Paragraph style setting. I have the nested style set to end with the end nested style here special character but it seems to stay in the format of the nested style no matter what I do.

Any suggestions?

Help with automating GREP search/replace in InCopy CS3

$

Hello,

I work at a small newspaper where we currently spent a considerable amount of time making fiddly changes to imported newswire copy.

To help automate this, I would like to be able to run a series of GREP search/replaces at the click of a button within InCopy CS3. Does anyone have a simple script that would be able to do that? My own knowledge of scripting is pretty limited.

I am aware of the search-replace scripts that come with InCopy, as well as some more elaborate third-party scripts. (I've found Kasyan Servetsky's "Find change by queries" script to be helpful in automating a series of text queries.) But none I've seen seem to work with GREP within InCopy.

I have come across several GREP search scripts for InDesign, but they don't appear to work in InCopy, which is the application we use for text processing.

Any help much appreciated,

EBookExport.InDesignPlugin error on document open

$

Adobe InCopy CS6 8.0 and 8.0.1

Mac OS X 10.8.2, 10.7.4, and 10.6.8.

I have a file that throws a

"Missing plugin

EBookExport.InDesignPlugin

The document "xxx.indd uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently avaiable on your system. Do you want to open it anyway?"

error on document open. This document has been opened on multiple Macs using the all three of the most recent operating systems listed above. Updating InCopy to 8.0.1 did not change anything.

Interestingly, in Extension Manager, EBookExport.InDesignPlugin does not show up in the list as an available plugin. It is in the InCopy applications folder: Applications/Adobe\ InCopy\ CS6/Plug-Ins/Filters/EBookExport.InDesignPlugin It does show up as an InDesign plugin, and it is loaded…

A clean install of InCopy CS6 from the Adobe disc on a new Mac generates the same error when opening the document. Opening the document in InDesign and exporting to idml, then re-opening makes no difference. Same error.

The root issue here is obviously that the extension is not recognized. I changed permisssions on the folder to no avail. As stated earlier, a fresh install on a new iMac and the extension will not load.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

I'm translating a book from German using InCopy CS6; I was given a drop box folder to kep it in but I didn't use it. Now I have to send the first part off to Germany and want to send it in Drop box but I can't move it from the InCopy file into  drop box to send it. I'm pretty useless with I.T. - it's my age. Any suggestions?

I have been to the InCopy page on the Adobe website and it states that InCopy comes with Creative Cloud but I am a Creative Cloud member and InCopy is not listed in any of the Apps or Services within the Cloud menu.

Does any other Creative Cloud members know how to access the InCopy?

Thanks

OSX and icml file permissions

Hello!

I've downloaded the trial version of InCopy in order to test its inclussion into our magazine workflow. InDesign is installed in my mac while InCopy is installed in my wife's MacBook Pro.

With all this said I need help with a problem I have with the file permissions: If I create an assignment in my computer the icml file that is generated has read/write permission for the administrator only (me). In order to allow my wife to access the file I have to manually add read/write permissions to "Staff" and "Everyone" under the file info panel.

Does anybody know how to give full access to newly created files to anyone? Or better yet, how to tell my computer that my wife needs full access to my files?

Thanks a lot for reading

Error Message - losing edits

$

This InCopy/InDesign workflow has been a nightmare so far.

My editor and I have had to redo both formatting and copy edits twice each already and this is a 324 page document. THe links dissapeared once and I've watched them vanish multiple times after (but at least caught it in time as it happened and repaired it before any edits were lost).

Now, we're in teh final stages and the editor is making very minor edits as am I but each time I open a file she has worked on I get this message:

"Edits have been made to the imported version of "filename". You will lose these edits by updating. Update anyway?"

I have no idea what this means - the files have not been moved off the server...nothing has changed in our workflow. I hit yes on a smaller chapter and noticed all the formatting I'd corrected the day before was erased. This is driving me nuts.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

fragmented view in IC CS2

Hi there,

we have some serious issues with IC CS2.

The View in IC gets completely fragmented after a while of working.

Sometimes it occors only a few minutes after IC was started and sometimes you can work a whole day without any problems.

Attached you can see some screenshots.

We also have tese problems in InDesign CS2

Used hard- and software:

wide machine range from

Pentium D, 2GB Ram, OnBoard-Graphics up to machines with 2*quad core xeon 2.5Ghz with 4GB Ram (3.25 avail.), RAID0 of 2* 10k RPM SATA-2-HDDs and Nvidia Quadro FX 570

All have Win XP Prof 32bit SP2 (but latest Patches) and also latest patches for IC and ID

System and program language = german

Allthough the screenshots look like the system is heavy loaded while this occours, it is not. you can do anything else perfectly and IC/ID has a CPU-load of ~1%

We have this problem on lots of different machines, different users, different networks,...

any help?

upgrading to CS4 is no solution. We can't spend hundrets of thausand dollars/euros for licenses only because those extreme expensive products have some major bugs...

InCopy crashes when returning for InDesign

$

I have seen the prior thread regarding this issue. The thread is quite old, however. I wonder if there is any new information.

We are able to open the package in InCopy, check out assignments, make changes, and check all assignments back in. When we go to Return for InDesign, InCopy crashes. The file does contain anchored text boxes and I did find one overset text box. I fixed it, but the crash still occurs.

Any suggestions.
