What is InCopy CC ?

hey i am a cloud member. but  i am wondering what is incopy cc? i was told its like indesign cc, meaning its good for print and DPS.  so how does it work?  i am wondering bec i have dreamweaver and muse. both do the same thing designing for web sites. so is incopy another part of indesign?

i ask bec i am trying to self teach myself all the apps. so when i go back to school and take either computer graphic or mix media design as a certificate. then i will be good.  this will help me with the weak design skills i have when i was photo student.

i just got my photography degree this past may of 2013. but its photography, and i only took some classes, just basic in, illustrator, dreamweaver, basic editing in perier pro.

i took indesign and did not do so well.

i thought incopy is another part indesign  as a simple design editer.

InCopy vs. Indesign

I am currently considering whether to purchase the Indesign program or merely "settle" with the InCopy version.

Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?

Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks & brgds

InCopy CC crashes when using track changes

Hi

We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.

We are using the package system.

It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.

If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.

Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.

Thanks

Louise

InCopy/InDesign Track Changes

I just watched the Lynda.com video on tracking changes in InCopy. My question is do the changes need to be accepted to stick?  I just want to make sure all the changes stay in. We do not have a one person editor who would accept and reject changes. We just want to see what they were, and who did them.

Thank you in advance,

Holly

Index and InCopy

How can I create an Index in InCopy

which I can use also in InDesign?

Incopy changes not showing up in InDesign

I have an InCopy story in which the editor made several edits and applied several style sheets; however, those changes are not showing up in the InDesign file. The InDesign file does not show that the story is "out of date." When I open the actual INCX file, the changes are in the file and if I unlink the story from InDesign, delete the text, then re-link the story, the changes now appear.

We were able to fix this instance and did not loose any text; however, I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen and if there's a known cause for this.

Return for InDesign

I'm a writer working remotely. I and the designers work on Macs (OS 10-something). I'm using the trial version of InCopy CS4, to see if it improves our work flow. The designers are working in InDesign CS3.

The designers sent me files which I was able to edit in InCopy. Now I want to send the edited files back, but the "Return for InDesign" command is grey, and I can't select it. (It's grey in the "Assignments" window, as well as under the File>Package>Return for InDesign navigation at the top of the screen.)

How can I send the edited files back to the designers? Clearly I'm doing something wrong, or not doing something, but I can't figure out what that might be.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Using In-Copy and In-Design Across an ocean

Good morning everyone. I am about to begin working for the first time with In-Design and In-Copy on a project at my company that has a workflow that is as follows:

There are two main writers (myself and another writer) and we will be the keepers of the In-Design and In-copy files. We have a group of Topic Experts who will be asked to write their contributing articles in Microsoft Word. Those word documents will be imported into In-Copy, edited using track changes and exported as MS Word documents to the topic editors who will make further edits with MS Word track changes and send them back to the writers who will again import the Word document back into In-Copy and that is how this workflow will progress until the content is ironed out. Once that happens and all of the track changes are accepted, the in-copy document will be sent to the designer (who happens to be in Germany) and he will do the layout. He will then send us the laid out In-design document, we will export the content to In-copy and make any needed changes after which we will again bring everything back into In-design to be sent back to the designer for final layout.

Does this all sound right? Will we have difficulty with the workflow I described? Will there be issues surrounding the fact that our designer is across the ocean and on a different computer? Can we work locally at our independent machines if all three of us have In-Design, In-copy and MS Word loaded locally to our machines?

Am I looking at this correctly?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

~ Frank

Can you add or delete pages in InCopy?

Working with InCopy CS4 on Apple.

Let's say I got an Indesign document with 4 pages. My author can edit the document via InCopy. Now he needs 2 more pages because his text gets longer. Is there any way he can add the necessary pages in this document by himself in InCopy or let InCopy automatically add as many pages as necessary (like Word would)? Or does he have to ask me to add the pages in Indesign?

And vice versa: Can the author in any way delete unnecessary pages?

Thanks

InDesign to InCopy problems

I am fairly new to InCopy but a veteran InDesign user. I use InDesign CS4 on my MAC and export stories and assignments to PC InCopy Users. I also have a copy of InCopy on my Mac for trouble shooting. We publish a multiple page quarterly publication and I am still trying to figure out best way to work with multiple 5-6 editors. Working with assignments seems to work the easiest.

We started in the middle of an issue last time and it seemed to work but was slow. Now starting with a new document I am finding I am having more trouble with file size and the time it takes to export stories and assignments. We are working on a Server that is a little slow because we are not all in the same location. I am wonder best way to do this, and why my files are so large (just text) after I export them. I also need to know why it takes so long to export very simple stories. It wasn't this bad before, what could have gone wrong. My tech services department has done some server work but assure me they didn't change anything that would cause this and are blaming it on the file sizes.

I have looked through references, watched Lynda.com video, purchased the CS2 book and I am still in the dark. Please help.

Unable to track changes in all stories

I've exported stories to assignments from InDesign, but when my copy team goes to open assigments the "Enable tracking in all stories" option is grayed out. They can enable tracking in current story after checking it out. Do they have to do that to every story they want to make changes to?

Indesign Incopy workflow crash!

My indesign incopy workflow consistently crashes!!!

I don't know what to do!

My incopy user updated the incopy file.

I open indesign and try to update the story and it crashes.

I tried to save as an .IDML without updating the files because that's when it crashes but that doesn't work either.

What can I do so I don't lose the changes?????

please help!!!!

Has anyone had problems with text wrapping not showing up correctly in InCopy?

Designer is using InDesign CS5, version 7, and editor is using InCopy CS5, version 7.0.4. Both on Macs, working remotely through packaging workflow.

InDesign doc and pdf look fine, but when editor opens package, on some pages (not all), where text is meant to wrap around an object, it is not wrapping. Instead white space is left and text gets pushed forward onto next page. In Galley view, a page break occurs at roughly the spot where the text wrapping should be happening, but no page break is there in layout or story view.

Also in this same document, some paragraph styles have changed slightly from what they should be--this is easily fixed, but still a mystery as to why they are coming up incorrectly, even though all fonts are the same, etc.

Would be grateful for help as this is obviously affecting our efficiency and the usefulness of InCopy for our staff.

Is there a way to auto-renumber tables and figures in an InCopy document?

I am looking for a script or plugin to be able to auto-renumber figures and tables in large InDesign/InCopy documents. Say if I add a new figure in between figures 4 and 5 I would like all following figures to automatically renumber and all references to those figures in the text to also auto-renumber like in a Word document. Possible? We have over 100 authors that are concerned this can't work. Need help.

InCopy in Creative Cloud?

I have been to the InCopy page on the Adobe website and it states that InCopy comes with Creative Cloud but I am a Creative Cloud member and InCopy is not listed in any of the Apps or Services within the Cloud menu.

Does any other Creative Cloud members know how to access the InCopy?

Thanks

James

Using find/change to make text bold

How do I use find/change to make the first three or four words of a paragraph bold? I've figured out how to select the correct number of words but now I can't find a way to make the text bold using find/change. Help!

InCopy crashes when returning for InDesign

I have seen the prior thread regarding this issue. The thread is quite old, however. I wonder if there is any new information.

We are able to open the package in InCopy, check out assignments, make changes, and check all assignments back in. When we go to Return for InDesign, InCopy crashes. The file does contain anchored text boxes and I did find one overset text box. I fixed it, but the crash still occurs.

Any suggestions.

Paragraph & Word Count in InCopy

Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.

Creating a preview of an InCopy file, automatically

Are there any programs / utilities / scripts out there that will convert an icml file to a jpeg or pdf? I have some users who would like to have previews of incopy files in a system before they're attached to any sort of layout.

I see that there's a native option within IC to export to a PDF, but haven't found any sort of scripting or utility to do this.

Thanks!
