I'm just starting to configure my first document between InDesign CS3 and InCopy CS4. Before we purchased the licenses for IC4, the marketing materials confirmed that they were backward compatible, but what are the drawbacks of running ID3 with it? Should I save myself a lot of headaches and ask for the ID upgrade?
I am trying to write a JavaScript to transpose adjacent words.
I plan to use the "move" function but am having trouble getting a reference to the word under the cursor.
I can find out which character I am in within the story...but don't think I should need to iterate through all of the characters in the story to determine the word number.
Can someone provide some guidance on how I can determine the number of the word under the cursor?
Thanks much!
I have not been able to find anything on this issue. I am using InCopy CS5 (7.0.4). I am preparing stand-alone InCopy files for InDesign layout. In other words, these files are not part of InCopy workflow.
When I try to open a file I closed yesterday, I get the error message: unclosed token.
No options to restore the file. Nothing. I guess I have to kiss that file good-bye.
Any suggestions?
Note: I must first say that InCopy CS5 has got to be one of the most unstable pieces of software I have ever used. It has crashed nearly once an hour since I started this project. (Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of InCopy/InDesign. There is no better way to integrate xml into the publishing cycle, for example.) But as an example of the unstable behavior, I will be copying and pasting text from one place to another when the beach ball will start spinning. Then InCopy crashes. In a few minutes, the crash report window appears. After answering the various dialog boxes, my file(s) come back.
if I download the trial version of InCopy, I can become a complete version to buy my license? and I can install on mac?
Hello,
This is the problem we are having
When a designer opens an InDesign file that is stored on a network share through InDesign, and an editor tries to open the same InDesign file through InCopy, the error message “This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it.” is displayed. To get around this issue, the designer must close out of the file in InDesign, and the editor must open the InDesign file in InCopy before the designer reopens the InDesign file using the InDesign application. This issue did not occur in 9.1. Adobe support has stated that files cannot be used at the same time in InCopy and InDesign, but that is the function that the product was designed to accomplish and this issue has never occurred before. The files are stored on a shared network.
Also, when an editor updates an assignment from InCopy and a designer clicks on the updated assignment to update their view from InDesign, the error message “The content is locked and cannot be modified.” is displayed. If the Designer clicks OK, the view is updated as expected. This occurs even is the assignment is NOT checked out by another user.
Finally, if a designer adds or updates a graphic inside of an InDesign file using InDesign while an editor is editing the file using InCopy, the editor using InCopy will not see the update unless they completely close out of the InCopy application and reopen it, which due to the above problems, is not feasible. The only way the file can be updated in InCopy is for the designer to completely close out of the file, for the editors to then close out, and reopen in InCopy, at which point the designer may reopen the file. If some editors are away from their desks at the time of update, the entire process must be repeated in order for them to be able to open the most recent version of the file in InCopy.
This issue appears to be due to a major flaw in the 9.2 version update for InDesign, as none of these issues occurred before the 9.2 update. One computer currently still has the 9.1 version of InDesign at our company, and does not experience these problems we are having with 9.2. We have tested multiple configurations of our network trying to rule out our network as the problem, but the only case in which we don't experience these problems is when we use InDesign version 9.1. Also, we never experienced this problem before the update of InDesign and InCopy to 9.2.
Thanks!
Graham

Not sure what happened. I had a crash and then when I brought InCopy back up, the word count function had disappeared.I see my text preview settings, and then an option to turn off paragraph styles, and then a "customize" window that only allows me to turn off "text display" or "view options."
I need my word count back! I use it a lot. Any help will be very appreciated.
The error I get when I launch InCopy CS6 is: Adobe InCopy is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InCopy to recover work in any unsaved InCopy documents. <Return to Finder> Just two weeks ago we resolved an issue with the serial number. It was resolved, but now InCopy crashes.
More often than not, when updating in InDesign (CS6) a link to an InCopy (CS6) document edited by an author, I get the warning:
Edits have been made to the imported version of "story_name.icml".
You will lose these edits by updating. Update anyway?
Now I can't see how this can be:
So how is it possible that edits could have been made to my version that will be lost when I update to the author's latest version?
Hello ,
I am having an issue with a file in InCopy. I am opening in InCopy CC a .indd file that was created in Adobe InDesign CC. After opening the file i go to file and select "Check Out". When i do that i get an error that says "This is not a valid InDesign Interchange document"
I have seen some post about this error but they are related to much earlier versions of incopy & indesign. I am still fairly to new these products so i am grateful for any help.
Thanks
I used to use a quick-key Change Case combination to change all-uppercased sentences to normal lower-cased letters, but when we switched to InCopy at work I lost that ability. Is there a quick command that I am missing?
Thank you.
I have a new install of inCopy. I'm trying to paste content from a word document. If I choose from the Edit menu, all the options for cut/copy/paste are greyed out/disabled. On my old laptop I had this functionality.
Sorry if this is a repetitive thread - I couldn't seem to find anything posted on translations.
I am a one person marketing department, well versed in InDesign and translation the old fashioned cut n paste solution .. Being pressed for time - I'm looking to maximize on my time spent.
Can InCopy be used by my translators to remotly (from the other side of the world in most cases) translate my InDesign documents? What do I need to set this up? Do I need to purchase InCopy for each of them? Or is there some sort of online function I can use. Do I need to have an InDesign Server?
Sorry if these sound like really basic questions - I've never used InCopy before and have no idea where to even look for the answers!
I've just started using incopy in conjunction with indesign for a new job. I've got the basics but...
When I open my indesign file in incopy all my layout/formatting (text frame placement, pages size etc.) is gone. Text is there and in the correct font/paragraph format but it seems to default to an A4 text frame.
What am I doing wrong?
Hi Experts,
I tried exporting PDF from Incopy Assignment and after exporting, the bookmarks are missing. I found there is no options to "Include Bookmarks" while exporting, Options like Indesign while exporting. I want to export PDF with Bookmarks from Incopy.
Is there any way to achieve this?
Thanks,
Regards,
K.Velprakash.
I'm having an issue trying to figure out what is happening with my font spacing for a text box that was assigned and updated by one of our editors.
I'm not sure what version of incopy he has it is probably not CC. I am using Indesign CC Build 11.2.0.99.
The change made in his update shouldn't change anything except for one paragraph near the end of the text box, but for some reason all the text is changing. The text is formatted the way I want in the first screenshot, then after updating its much tighter and flows differently. The tracking and kerning and all text attributes appear to be exactly the same. So I'm missing something somewhere or there may be a compatibility issue if he has an older version. I'm not sure. Any ideas?
The second paragraph is breaking totally wrong after update. Nothing was change in this para by the editor.
I'm an editor working with a designer who, based on the tutorials we've read/watched, has properly prepared and exported an InDesign file for me to edit. When I try to check out the assignment, though, I get an error message reading "Unable to lock the following files: [file path]." The designer can check in and out fine, but I can't. Any advice?
