Update Error

Hi, we're new to InCopy and are currently trialling it. What we're finding is that when we update content that has inline graphics (so they flow through the document with the content), each time we try to update the file within InDesign it crashes the InDesign program and we are unable to update the document.

Has anyone else come across this? And is there a way to use inlinegraphics that doesn't crash InDesign on update?

Thanks.

CP1252.txt error message

Hello InCopy Community:

I have a new user that has InCopy CS6 (version 8.0.1) installed on their Windows System 7 computer.  Most of the time, the software opens the files successfully.

However, on some files the InCopy user receives the following error when opening the document:

"Adobe InDesign is missing required files.  Please reinstall."

"Missing files:  \Program Files\Common Files\TypeSupport\...\CP1252.TXT"

We checked the InCopy machines Program Files and Program Files (x86) directories and the CP1252.TXT file appears in both paths.

I also checked the machine running InDesign CS6 (also Win System 7) and the CP1252.TXT file resides in the appropriate paths.

Is anyone familiar with this issue and have a solution?

Your response would be appreciated.

Unable to open InCopy file I closed yesterday: unclosed token error.

I have not been able to find anything on this issue. I am using InCopy CS5 (7.0.4). I am preparing stand-alone InCopy files for InDesign layout. In other words, these files are not part of InCopy workflow.

When I try to open a file I closed yesterday, I get the error message: unclosed token.

No options to restore the file. Nothing. I guess I have to kiss that file good-bye.

Any suggestions?

Note: I must first say that InCopy CS5 has got to be one of the most unstable pieces of software I have ever used. It has crashed nearly once an hour since I started this project. (Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of InCopy/InDesign. There is no better way to integrate xml into the publishing cycle, for example.) But as an example of the unstable behavior, I will be copying and pasting text from one place to another when the beach ball will start spinning. Then InCopy crashes. In a few minutes, the crash report window appears. After answering the various dialog boxes, my file(s) come back.

Incopy shuts down frequently

I am working in a longish document. Every five minutes, it seems, inCopy crashes. I can post the crash report, as it appears that noone at Adobe is going to help me out voluntarily, even though inCopy crashes nearly 30 times a day. At any rate, of late, it crashes at the slightest provocation: deleting text from a table (either multiple cells at a time or a single cell at a time), copying and pasting text from one place in a document to another, selecting a paragraph style in the style palette.

I am running CS5 7.0.4 on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.5 (Lion).

Any way to save/move text macros in InCopy 6.0.6?

We're using a Citrix-based suite that includes CS4 InCopy 6.0.6. We're upgrading the system next month, and we're told that all text macros will be lost in the conversion. Is there really no way to export/move my 200-plus text macros from the current setup into the new one?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Exporting to XML with hyperlinks - is it possible?

Hi! I'm working for a weekly publication that has just switched over to InCopy to integrate better with InDesign, which we've been using for a while.

Several months ago our Web guru created a DTD file and tags for me to export our InDesign file to XML in order to upload that to the website. Now that we've switched to InCopy, I'm sure she can do the same for that. My question is, if our reporters insert hyperlinks into the text of the story, is there a way to export the file to XML and keep those hyperlinks intact? (Essentially, entering the coding into the XML file so it stays there -- hopefully -- when we upload it into our system.)

Right now, I can upload the basic text, headlines and all that, but I still have to go back into the file once it's in our system and add in all the hyperlinks manually.

Any help is appreciated! TIA.

Placing InCopy without formating

Hi. I am new to the Incopy workflow so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. We have a project where we need to have a single paragraph that is placed in multiple documents. We were hoping that we could use InCopy to do this, but the documents are not all the same font size or orientation. We are wondering if when you use this if there is some way to place the ICML file without any formating so that it will take on the attributes of the box that it is going into or so that the designers can manipulate it without manipulating the rest of the files using the same ICML file.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you!

Is there any way to PLACE an InCopy CC story (icml file) into an Illustrator CC (ai file)?  In other words, does InCopy CC work with Illustrator CC, or does it only work for InDesign CC?

InDesign/InCopy Workflow – The content is locked and cannot be modified.

I've been working with an InDesign/InCopy workflow with Dropbox for a while and occasionally get an alert dialogue "The content is locked and cannot be modified" when in InDesign accepting/update InCopy changes made to the document. It seems to be happening more and more recently.

I can click OK, and then the software will allow the changes to be made to the InDesign document. However, I am having instances that InCopy users cannot get back into the document, until all of the content is updated from my end. I doesn't look like we are loosing any editorial changes.

Why does this happen? Is there any way to make it stop?

Thanks!

Adobe Indesign CC to Adobe InCopy - Story Format is Not Compatible with this Assignment

$

I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.

First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.

1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.

2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.

3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.

4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.

These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?

I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.error message.JPG

error message2.JPG

This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.

InCopy - lost base preferences

I work at a newspaper. I had IC open on my Mac's desktop over a weekend and we suffered a power outage. Upon restart two days later, I lost all my baseline preferences (i.e. specifically when creating a file, it no longer is in our paragraph style; I need to manually load the styles in each document, select all text and change it). Also, when my documents are sent to my editor, they cannot be edited and the appears in orange. She has to select all and copy+paste it into a new file that she creates in order to edit the copy. Also, spell-check doesn't always automatically load and I have to go into preferences and click that to be used.

There are a litany of other issues that occasionally pop up now, but those are the biggest ones. My suspicion is that a preference file is corrupt and needs to be re-created, but we have no earthly idea on how to do that.

InCopy .icml gets corrupt by adding copy twice with garbage

Working with InDesign CS6 & InCopy CS6. Making assignments works fine out of InDesign but then when the editor works and saves an assignment via InCopy the .icml file goes corrupt. I open the .icml file in Text Wrangler, I find that InCopy had not saved the file incorrectly. The coding is in there twice, I delete the second copy which has garbage in it, them file is ok again. This bad file crashes InCopy and InDesign when trying to update.

We are running Box with sync folders. Any solution?

Cant edit text in InCopy

A document created in InDesign CS3 on a Mac is supposed to be edited in InCopy CS3 on a PC by a colleague. She can enter the textbox and move the cursor with the arrows in the text, but she cant change or delete text. Has anyone a clue about why this happens?

InCopy vs. Indesign

I am currently considering whether to purchase the Indesign program or merely "settle" with the InCopy version.

Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?

Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks & brgds
