The screen font is very small on a high res screen.

ok I am trying InCopy for the first time. How do you put an image in a document? Started my first document. file->place->image.jpg and nothing. I tried drag and drop and still nothing. I read the documentation here and it did no good.

This is InCopy CC on a pc, stand-alone document.

I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.

First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.

1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.

2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.

3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.

4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.

These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?

I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.

This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.

InCopy is consistently crashing on quit in 10.11.  Below is the crash report.  Any ideas?  Clearing caches didn't work.

There are no easy overview/intro videos I can find anywhere on 1. What is InCopy? 2. How can I begin to work in InCopy? I need something quick and easy to watch for my marketing team to get them interested in streamlining our editing process.

Does anyone know if there is a way to lock an icml file, so only the creator can modify it? Instead of everyone linking to an eps file, I would like him or her to be able to place an icml file that only one person can change. I need the placed files to be live text for translation purposes.

Hi everyone,

I had to install Adobe inCopy for Clients in my workplace. After installing it I use a SmartConnection and a patch installer on it. It succeed for almost all clients except one, which I always get the error when connecting with the SmartConnection. When I open the event Logs it says that it is related to the plugin public.dll.

I have been installing it again and again and it is always the same error who pop up.

The client is a 64Bit running windows 7.

Some help would be welcomed.

I am working on a 64 page document in InDesign CS4 (on the Mac) with 7 editors all on PC using InCopy CS4. The InDesign file resides on my desktop and the assignments and stories are on the server. Through lots of trial and error I have figured out how to at least to that.

Tonight as I am on my final draft all of a sudden I got the dreaded red question mark circle on all my assignments (InDesign). Today was the last day for editors to update their information of course. So everyone has been in there. Anyway, I was able to update all the stories associated with the assignments at least I think so, but the assignments all still have the question mark. I checked the server and the assignments seem to be there. I tried to save over them (change assignment location from my mac, )and even rename the assignments but the red question mark remains.

When I try to update all assignments I get a message that "One or more assignments could not be updated, please check the path for these assignments and try again.

My server may have dropped me for a short while tonight but it is up and running now. Any ideas?

I don't really want to unlink all the assignments in case anyone was tracking changes as they are supposed to. We are less than a week from press time. What do you suggest, I do?

Hello All,

I'm trying to help an editor troubleshoot an issue that I haven't seen before.  InCopy on her system is stuck in Notes Mode for all documents.  When the user tries to type or click in a story, she's prestented with a new note instead of seeing the desired effects.  Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:

1. Open a document.

2. Check out a story from the document.

3. Try to type or click anywhere in the checked out document

We've tried the above steps with a dozen or so documents and they have all acted the same way.  The following are the troubleshooting steps that we've tried so far:

1. Restart InCopy.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Swap out the keyboard to make sure F8 wasn't stuck.

This issue just started this morning; she has used this system for about a year now without any similar issues. Her system configuration is as follows:

Apple iMac, 20" Intel Core 2 Duo

OS X 10.5.8 with latest security patches

Adobe InCopy CS3 5.0.4

Extensis Font Reserve Client 1.7.6.1

Please let me know if you have any questions or thoughts.  I have a feeling that there is something minor that I'm overlooking but I can't figure out what.

I am attempting to edit a complex document with numerous tables containing conditional text. (With subsequent management and final document composition to be done in InDesign by placing assorted sections into a dynamic long-document.)

While tagging the text in these tables is working well, the table cells themselves are unable to be tagged as conditions.

Ideally,  when a condition does not allow for text to be displayed, and no other  text is to be conditionally displayed, a table cell would not be in the  "Condition" either, and would not just put a blank cell or row. Would it not make sense to allow the ability to tag an entire row or column as a condition as well?

Has anyone else found either a way  to tag table rows as conditional, or to workaround this issue. It will  be an extremely difficult document to maintain if we cannot automatically adjust  tables based upon conditional text, and must manually manage tables in InDesign later on.

Any and all help or advice would be most welcome.

We have been using an InDesign/InCopy workflow for a little over a year. Until recently, we were using InDesign5 and InCopy 5.5, and we had no problems opening and working in the assignments. In the last month or two, some of our new freelancers purchased InCopy6, and it quickly became apparent that it was not compatible with files created in InDesign5. They were unable to open packages, or if a package could be opened it ultimately crashed and lost the changes.

We have upgraded across the board: designers all have InDesign6, and editors/copy editors have InCopy6. However, this upgrade has not resolved the problems and, in fact, the problems seem to be increasing. Many of the files still cannot be opened (often, InCopy shuts down when trying to open a file and says "a serious error was detected"); this seems to be happening more with larger files. Also, some projects open but have pages missing from story/galley view.

Our designers say that they are continuing to work and create assignment packages as before, and even our veteran editors and copy editors are having issues. Does anyone have insight into what may be happening and how we can resolve it? At this point, it's getting hard to rely on this workflow.

I am trying to export a document as PDF. In the GUI I can check Spreads and I will get my pages on one spread. With scripting I only have the option

ExportReaderSpreads (whatever that means) in the PDFLayoutExportPreference. Setting this to true or false makes no difference. I am only getting single pages exported.

Is it a bug or am I missing something?

For some background info. I work with over 20,000 pages per production in about 200 InDesign files. I'd like to upgrade to the Creative Cloud where I'll use CS6 to use create and export InCopy articles from InDesign files.  My goal is to decrease the number of incopy files and any corrections to content can be made in one place, and will update accordingly, and this way writers can edit their incopy documents which I edit the indesign documents.

I have a main product line created Product #1, The owners now wish to create another product line out of a majority of the content from Product 1, such as editing/removing some of that content and changing and adding other pieces of content to create what will become Product 2.

I'm using conditional text to tag up and change content in the "combo file" which will contain all content needed as well as conditional text layers for both Product 1 and 2. This way I can turn on and off the condiional text layers as needed. From this combo file, I'd like to export incopy articles out of thiis file so writers can work on their content, while I still work in InDesign at the same time. (This method would in a sense replace what we were using which was K4.

Once all content edits are made to the incopy articles, I can then create 2 seperate InDesign files. The first with only Product 1 information, and the second with only Product 2 information, this way if corrections need to be made to both product lines, the idea is I should only need to edit the content for both products in one place (the Incopy Articles) which would be in the combo file with both products 1 and 2. The the Incopy Articles would then relink/snyc up in the Product 1 file and the Product 2 file.

So far, I think I have an intriguing solution in the works. But my goal is to get these files' content to sync up with other and avoid having multiple files to open/close and remember what I changed where and in which Product line It's alread bad enough with 1 product line so I am in a sense doubling my workload with this new product.

I plan to name the incopy files by Week# and have 36s weeks of incopy articles. Each article has 5 "days" of notes and spans multiple pages, but each product will still have the same#of weeks.

• The question I have with this scenario is: What if a paragraph in my incopy article needs to move from Week 1 in Product 1 to Week 16 in Product 2. I am having a hard time thinking through how to ensure rearranging content with my conditional text would still work if I want to use this Incopy/InDesign workflow. Is there a feature that could help with this I'm not considering?
  
  
• My next question: Is there a way to proofread conditional text on a black and white printout so it shows up well? I think you can highlight the conditional text and underline it and you can indeed print it... but I'm wondering how well it would print or if there are preferences to make the conditional text a bit more prominent so proofreaders can tell what is product 1 vs product 2 if  them want to see the whole combo file.

I hope the above made sense. I'd be glad to elaborate if needed. If there's a better person/place to ask please let me know. I appreciate any feedback, My brain is hurting thinking of the pros/cons. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has done something similar.

Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.

How do I use find/change to make the first three or four words of a paragraph bold? I've figured out how to select the correct number of words but now I can't find a way to make the text bold using find/change. Help!

The error I get when I launch InCopy CS6 is: Adobe InCopy is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InCopy to recover work in any unsaved InCopy documents. <Return to Finder> Just two weeks ago we resolved an issue with the serial number. It was resolved, but now InCopy crashes.

I've installed and re-installed InCopy CC 2014 on a with Mac 10.9.4 , but it will crash right away on start-up
