Font compatibility issues between InCopy and InDesign

My co-worker works in InDesign and assigns me stories to work on in InCopy. I then open them on my machine and make my edits. When he opens them again, all of the text in the story I've edited is highlighted in pink, indicating that there is an error. He then has to change the font back to what it should be. We are trying to use the font Georgia, and we both have the same version of the font installed and both are Open Type font files. I'm not doing anything to change the fonts--just editing the text. Has anyone encountered this same problem? (Note: the text I've edited isn't the only text that ends up highlighted in pink. It's ALL text in the story, even if all I've done is add a comma to a five-paragraph story.)

Background info, just in case:

Co-worker (InDesign user): On a Mac with the Yosemite 10.10.1 OS

Me (InCopy user): On a PC with Windows 7 Professional OS

Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thanks.

InCopy CC17 issues

We're having issues with InCopy CC17 crashing while the app is closing.  It's happening on multiple machines, so it's probably not a hardware issue.

I should note, that we just upgraded to CC17 from CS6 and I'm still using my InDesign template and .icml links originally created in CS6, so this could be the issue...

Anyone having similar issues? Is there a fix? Thanks in advance for any help!

set to Layout view at start up

I know how to set to Layout view with existing window.

app.windows[0].viewTab=ViewTabs.LAYOUT_VIEW;

But how do I set to Layout view with no window?

Background: Customer deletes InCopy-Defaults and wants InCopy to run in Layout view. So in the GUI you would simply set Layout view.

But that seems to be impossible to do by script. Unless I am missing something.

Thank you,

Ralf

InCopy notification

How do I notify editors of updated assignments? My editors are doing many other things and only open IC for our projects. How do I notify them that their assignment is updated? Do I need to email them, or is there an automated system? This is all I could find on Adobe's site:

Notify users when an InCopy content file is outdated, being used by someone, or available for editing. Notification methods include alert messages, frame icons, status icons in the Links panel, and status icons in the Assignments panel.

It sounds like users need to somehow KNOW to check the assignment file on the server...

Thanks!

Incopy files not updating

Having a problem with Incopy files not updating after designers on Indesign prepare packages on second round of revisions.

First, the designers create an Indesign file and prepare a newly created Incopy package. The editors are able to open the package for the first time. Editors make changes then repackage for designers. Designer then open package from editors and make necessary changes and then repackage back to the editors. At this point, the editors receive a message to replace when opening package. The files open but it doesn't update all the changes that was originally made to it. It as if it is still using the original assignments from the first newly created package. Also, all the assignments have "?" in the assignment window in Incopy. We are unable to figure out how to update the "?" in Incopy or relink or what ever we need to do at this point.

Several things we checked.

1. Unstuffing the package contents from the designers shows all updated file dates. So we know the package contains the newest updated assignment files.

2. If the designers rename the file names on all the assignments in the assignment folder, then repackage. The files open on Incopy with updated changes. But not if the file name remains the same. Also, if the assignment files are all renamed, it doesn't ask to replace anything on Incopy.

At this point. Our only solution is to rename all the assignment files and repackage. But we shouldn't have to be doing this, especially since it adds time to the designers to repackage the files.

Designers using Indesign CS 3 on Mac OS 10.6.4.

Editors using Incopy CS 3 on PC Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Versioning InCopy documents

Currently I work with a Word doc, uploaded to Sharepoint. This file is checked out and worked on and once it is saved back to its Sharepoint location, a version is saved. This allows someone to restore the most recent saved version back to a previous version or simply to see what changes have been made at each version in the history.

I'm currently working with the InCopy CS6 free trial to understand its features and whether it will be suitable. I understand the checking in and out process that you get, but the ability to see a list of versions of a document doesn't seem to exist. Am I missing it? Does InCopy have a version history of a document that is being checked in and out, and resaved by multiple users?

If there isn't an obvious built in versioning solution in InCopy then how do people go about keeping versions of a document with InCopy?

Interested to hear what solutions have been tried and tested.

Is there a way to make InCopy open all documents in normal screen mode, always?

Is there a way to make InCopy open all documents in normal screen mode, always?

Now it opens in the screen mode the InDesign page is in when checked in. We don't want that.

Thanks,

Frederik

Is there a "Reveal in Explorer" option (or similar) in InCopy?

I think I've exhausted every place I can look for this on a PC with no luck. On a Mac you can simply right-click on the document's title in the tab, however on a PC I can find nothing similar. If anybody knows a way to do this I would be very happy to be enlightened - and if there is no way I'll be glad to add it as a feature request.

Thanks in advance!

InCopy vs. Indesign

I am currently considering whether to purchase the Indesign program or merely "settle" with the InCopy version.

Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?

Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks & brgds

"Save All Content" option is disabled

Adobe InCopy CC version 11.0.1.105 x64 build running on Windows 7 Enterprise.

I have a few dozen documents open and modified through bulk find-and-replace steps. I'd like to save them all at once, but the "Save All Content" option is grayed out. (Save and Save As ... are both enabled).

I can't find anything that indicates what conditions would disable the "Save All Content" option or how to enable it, but it would save me a lot of time to be able to Save All and close InCopy rather than save each (of dozens of files) one at a time.

Can anyone provide some insight?

Hi!

Is it still possible to buy a license code for the CS6 version of InCopy?

I looked around and could not find anything.

Thanks for any help!

InCopy support on Remote Desktop Servers

$

Just spent 30 minutes going round in a loop with the support desk and was directed to the forums as the best place for an answer so here goes...

Is Adobe InCopy supported in Remote Desktop Server environments?

I'm looking specifically Windows 2012R2 but the version of Windows shouldn't matter too much if they are officially supported. To give an example Adobe specifically call this out for the Acrobat product at Windows Terminal Services — Enterprise Administration Guide . Is there an equivalent for InCopy?

I can of course "try it and see" but if i hit an issue the minute after purchasing and Adobe refuse to support me because it's inside Remote Desktop Services I'm stuck. Looking at Technical support boundaries for virtualized or server-based environments | CS  Adobe only tell you what will happen in post sales technical and say they "do not speculate" which is not helpful in a pre-sales decision.

What is not useful to me here is the system requirements page at System requirements for Adobe InCopy CC for Mac and Windows OS

Also, the support person tried to tell me the plugins page contains the answer though it does not InCopy Help | In depth: Plug-ins

thanks in advance for your help

Grazie

Search/Find linked text files

I want to do a search/find on the linked text in a large file. I'm unable to so without unlinking all the text, or searching the articles individually. Does anyone know whether there is a way to do this without unlinking the text files?

Viewing and Editing Anchored Text Inside of InCopy Story/Galley Views

Hello,

Anchored text frames from InDesign do not show in Story or Galley view inside of InCopy. You only see the anchor icon, and not the text to edit. In order to edit that anchored text, the editor seems to need to know to go into Layout view. Is this correct behavior or is there a setting where a user can see and edit anchored text inside of Story or Galley views?

Changes to layout in InDesign don't go over to InCopy

Hi all,

recently we have been running into a strange phenomenon:

If the designer is just doing changes to the positioning of text frames (ie no edits that change the wrapping of text) updating the assignments does not work reliably.

I can replicate that on my machine (InDesign 5.03/InCopy 5.03; all files reside on a local file server in a folder I have full access to)

I created an InDesign file with several text frames that are exported as an assignment.
If I just move the frames and use "Update all assignments" or "Update assignment" nothing happens and the layout will not update in the opened InCopy assignment.

Afer several attempts (and some waiting in between) I can see the progress bar when updating the assignment - then the changes also show up in InCopy.

The problem is that our designers and editors are working from different locations - the editors will never notice the design changes if they don't show up in InCopy.

Can anyone shed some light on this - we're just starting work on another large cooperative project involving one designer and several editors using InCopy and I really don't want that to happen there...

Best regards

Mike

ps: Strange, I was in the impression this post would go to the InCopy Windows forum - we are working on windows. Sorry for that.

ps2: It seems that the "Update all Assignments" button does not work at all in this case. Selecting the assignment and using "Update Assignment" works better, but not always.

Adobe InCopy CS4 Missing Fonts...

$

I have a few users who are dealing with an InCopy file provided by a third party vendor who does their Marketing gazettes and logos, etc... Upon purchasing InCopy CS4, when opening the document provided, they receive a message stating "Missing Fonts" and they include:

Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed
ITC Franklin Gothic (T1) Demi
ITC Franklin Gothic (T1) Heavy
Helvetica Neue (T1) 27 Ultra Light Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 97 Black Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 57 Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 37 Thin Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 57 Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 47 Light Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 47 Light Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 65 Medium
Helvetica Neue (T1) 77 Bold Condensed

I had went to MyFonts.com and downloaded one to test: Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed. The link to the one that I had purchased is here: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/franklin-gothic/extra-condensed/

The font is installed, but Adobe does not see it. MS Word sees the font fine along with other applications. Did I purchase the wrong font or am I not doing something right with Adobe?

I have been working with this issue for a few weeks now, and are willing to try whatever I can to get the font seen by the application.

Any help with this would be much appreciated, or simliar approaches to the same problem.

Complicated InCopy Problem/Bug

I setup an InDesign project file (created on a Mac) for InCopy (on a PC). I created the assignment file, exported the stories, added them to the assignment, and then updated the assignment file through InDesign. When the InCopy user opens up the assignment file, some of the stories are unavailable for check out. There is a pencil mark next to the story and a red circle next to it. When I go back into the Indesign file and check the assignment, I noticed all the stories are checked in. Why is it that the InCopy user is unable to checkout those stories?

Some trouble shooting steps I took:
1. Recreated assignment file and stories.
2. Deleted InCopy preferences folder on the PC
3. Opened up individual stories and check them back in
4. Disabled all master page links
5. Both programs have latest updates installed

After completing the trouble shooting steps, the problem still persists.

Any solutions would be great.

Thanks,

Rabel

Not Well Formed.

Hello,

Here's my workflow between ID and IC.

1. Export a selected frame in InDesign to InCopy.

2. Open the indd file in InCopy.

3. Check out the exported content and edit it.

4. Save the document and check the edited content back in.

5. Open the file (indd) in InDesign.

6. Update the modified content (refresh)

At this point, InDesign gives me the floowing notification: "Not Well Formed."

That's it. It doesn't give any error codes. The bad thing is, it is not possible to bring the updated content back into InDesign, neither it's possible to edit the InDesign content. In order to edit the content in ID, I need to updated to document (since it was modified in IC). But because of the "Not Well Formed" message, it's not possible to neither updated nor edit the content.

I've tried 3 different documents. One of them was a few hundred pages. The other is just a 1 page test document. Tried restarting, tried starting creating a test document from scratch. Keep getting the same message.

Any idea? BTW, The document originally was a CS2 ID document. We recently upgraded from CS2 to CS4.

Thanks.
