Spreads rotating and printing off page

$

Hi,

I just posted about this on the InDesign forum, too, but it has an InCopy-specific angle, so that's why I'm here. When we print multiple spreads, the first spread prints fine, but the following ones are printing vertically, and thus, not fitting on the page. There's a workaround when printing from InDesign (have the paper size defined by driver) but that doesn't seem to be an option in InCopy. Any ideas? Thanks!

Scripting problem with Style Groups

Hi

Is there a way to frame a Character Style definition for Grep to indicate the style is in a Style Group?

The relevant line in the script is:

app.changeGrepPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = 'STYLE NAME';

what I need to do is tell it that this style name is in a style group. Is there a simple piece if syntax that will do this?

Thanks

Unable to open files in InCopy6, etc.

We have been using an InDesign/InCopy workflow for a little over a year. Until recently, we were using InDesign5 and InCopy 5.5, and we had no problems opening and working in the assignments. In the last month or two, some of our new freelancers purchased InCopy6, and it quickly became apparent that it was not compatible with files created in InDesign5. They were unable to open packages, or if a package could be opened it ultimately crashed and lost the changes.

We have upgraded across the board: designers all have InDesign6, and editors/copy editors have InCopy6. However, this upgrade has not resolved the problems and, in fact, the problems seem to be increasing. Many of the files still cannot be opened (often, InCopy shuts down when trying to open a file and says "a serious error was detected"); this seems to be happening more with larger files. Also, some projects open but have pages missing from story/galley view.

Our designers say that they are continuing to work and create assignment packages as before, and even our veteran editors and copy editors are having issues. Does anyone have insight into what may be happening and how we can resolve it? At this point, it's getting hard to rely on this workflow.

Javascript error:Object does not support this property or method xmlRuleProcessors

Hi,

We have written a script for rebuild the modified tables in Indesign document. Now we have used the same script in InCopy, but we are getting the below error while running this script.

Error number:55

Object does not support this property or method xmlRuleProcessors.

function myFindXMLElements(myXMLElement, myXPath){

    var myXMLElements = new Array;

    var myXPath = [myXPath];

    var myRuleProcessor = app.xmlRuleProcessors.add(myXPath);

    try{

        var myMatchData = myRuleProcessor.startProcessingRuleSet(myXMLElement);

        while(myMatchData != undefined){

            var myElement = myMatchData.element;

            myXMLElements.push(myElement);

            myMatchData = myRuleProcessor.findNextMatch();

        }

        myRuleProcessor.endProcessingRuleSet();

        myRuleProcessor.remove();

        return myXMLElements;

    }

    catch (myError){

        myRuleProcessor.endProcessingRuleSet();

        myRuleProcessor.remove();

        throw myError;

    }

Please help us if anyone has idea regarding this issue.

Does InCopy CC work with Illustrator CC, or does it only work for InDesign CC?

Is there any way to PLACE an InCopy CC story (icml file) into an Illustrator CC (ai file)?  In other words, does InCopy CC work with Illustrator CC, or does it only work for InDesign CC?

File recovery: Incopy cannot reopen edited file

An editor I work with has done a lot of work on an InCopy (CS6) icml document, only to find when she wanted to open it next morning, that it won't open.

There is no error message. The little blue wheel keeps turning, and nothing happens.

I also tried updating the InDesign document and, alternatively, importing the icml file into a new InDesign document, all with the same result.

Evidently there is something wrong with the file.

Is there any way to repair/recover an icml document?

I'm dreading telling the editor that she's going to have to do the work over from scratch.

If anyone cares to have a look at the file, it's available at:

Adobe Indesign CC to Adobe InCopy - Story Format is Not Compatible with this Assignment

$

I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.

First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.

1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.

2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.

3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.

4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.

These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?

I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.error message.JPG

error message2.JPG

This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.

InCopy (Windows) + InDesign (Mac) cross platform co-working

Hello everyone.

We have designers working on Macs and editors working on Windows laptops in our company. Both platforms have CS6 InCopy and InDesign installed and fonts are fixed for both platforms to work in both ways. But colleagues always complain about errors InCopy gives when editor tries to do anything with opened .indd file. Meaning that file opens OK, you can view it, but as soon as you try adding a note or editing the text it gives and error. Sorry, I had to blur the full path, but the idea is on the screenshot:

2015-09-18 17-02-28 Community: InCopy | Adobe Community.png

The file people are working with lies on the public server, anyone has access to those folders, so it is not permissions problem.

Does anyone have any idea if it possible to work with comfort using different operating systems?

Note: the same flow of actions works perfectly when you use Mac-to-Mac combination.

"Save All Content" option is disabled

Adobe InCopy CC version 11.0.1.105 x64 build running on Windows 7 Enterprise.

I have a few dozen documents open and modified through bulk find-and-replace steps. I'd like to save them all at once, but the "Save All Content" option is grayed out. (Save and Save As ... are both enabled).

I can't find anything that indicates what conditions would disable the "Save All Content" option or how to enable it, but it would save me a lot of time to be able to Save All and close InCopy rather than save each (of dozens of files) one at a time.

Can anyone provide some insight?

Double-spacing in an InCopy document imported from Word

$

Every so often, when we open a Word manuscript into InCopy (leaving out the Word formatting), we find that at a certain point IN LAYOUT MODE ONLY the text starts to appear as double-spaced. If you toggle to STORY mode, there is nothing to indicate any typesetting command to change the line-spacing. Again, this problem does not occur every time a Word document is imported. What could be causing this double-spacing?

Editor cannot 'check out' InCopy file

I'm a novice in InCopy but am learning the ropes, however, am having a problem that I can't figure out. The editor who needs to open/edit the InCopy file says she can't check it out. I don't know what to tell her. She has the .icma and .icml files and I don't see a problem on my end. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Inline text boxes - text not available in galley and story view

We have a book with loads of inline text boxes used as captions for inline images. The text in these inline boxes cannot be seen in story or galley view. Is there a way around this?

Has anyone come up with a solution on why the red circle with question mark inside appears.

Exporting InCopy text to MS Word?

Hi there. I have an editor who would like to export the text from an InCopy document to Word format so that a new author can have access to/edit the text. Is this possible? Even a .txt file would work. Just something that can be opened by the average Joe without any knowledge of/access to Adobe products.

Thanks so much!

InCopy vs. Indesign

I am currently considering whether to purchase the Indesign program or merely "settle" with the InCopy version.

Might anyone give some input as regards to when it would be beneficial to choose IC i/o ID?

Could I change pictures, text and to some extent layout in IC if I have some templates created in ID?

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks & brgds

Incopy 2 column layout

$

Hi,

I'm working in Indesign and my editor is working in Incopy.  They set up the incopy file as 1 column.  I just placed the incopy file into my indesign layout and changed the layout into a 2 column page layout.  When the editor opened the incopy file later to edit, it only shows up as 1 column?

My questions....

1.  Does the incopy file have to be set up from the beginning as 2 columns in order for both of us to be be able to see a 2 column layout and be looking at the same file?

2.  If I place the 1 column incopy file into my indesign 2 column layout, will the incopy user ever be able to see the 2 column layout?

We just need to be looking at the same file....trying to see if my process is wrong....

Thanks in advance...

Support for OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?

Hi,

I gather that InCopy supports 10.6.8, 10.7 and 10.8. Is there any planned support for the new OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?

InDesign already supports 10.9, so hopefully InCopy will also support it!
