Versioning InCopy documents

$

Currently I work with a Word doc, uploaded to Sharepoint. This file is checked out and worked on and once it is saved back to its Sharepoint location, a version is saved. This allows someone to restore the most recent saved version back to a previous version or simply to see what changes have been made at each version in the history.

I'm currently working with the InCopy CS6 free trial to understand its features and whether it will be suitable. I understand the checking in and out process that you get, but the ability to see a list of versions of a document doesn't seem to exist. Am I missing it? Does InCopy have a version history of a document that is being checked in and out, and resaved by multiple users?

If there isn't an obvious built in versioning solution in InCopy then how do people go about keeping versions of a document with InCopy?

Interested to hear what solutions have been tried and tested.

Just installed InCopy CS6 and when it is launched (for the first time) I get the following message:

"Adobe InCopy is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InCopy to recover work in any unsaved In Copy documents."

Then there is a "return to finder" button to select. Please advise!!

Incopy crashes when opening large Indd-files

We are publishers of a magazine. One layouter on Indesign, and two writers on Incopy. What happens frequently is, that after a while, when the Indd-file becomes fairly big, Incopy stalls on opening the file. Sometimes it opens it in text-mode, but we can't switch to layout-mode. But mostly we don't even come that far. Right now, we are unable to open the file at all under Incopy. We have NO idea how to troubleshoot this, and it's seems independent of size, because we can open other large files. But it regularly happens with our magazine, once the file gets filled with graphics. Is there a log-file that would give us a clue what is happening?

Missing Plug-ins - Package And Preflight.APLN from InDesign Document

If a user creates a file in InDesign CC and then tries to open it in InCopy CS6 they get the following error.

Missing Plug-ins, Cannot Open File

PACKAGE AND PREFLIGHT.APLN

The Doument "filename.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?

This happens whether the copy of InCopy is on the same PC as InDesign or a seperate PC without InDesign. InCopy is installed seperately from the CC.

Clicking OK opens the file normally.

We have checked that both versions of the software match at v8.0.2.

I've heard it might be due to embedding of this file but the designers say they are not yet at the stage of packaging this file when they get this error so nothing should be embedded.

Can anyone help?

Adding fonts to InCopy.

I am using a trial version of InCopy on a Mac. I have been sent a zip file of fonts to add to InCopy so I can do some trial editing work. But so far I haven't been able to install them. When I open InCopy for editing I get a dialogue box saying the fonts are missing. How can I install these fonts?

InCopy Assignments - "The Content is locked and cannot be modified."

I've been using Incopy for a magazine we publish every month and since the updates to CC and CC (2014) we seem to have error messages popping up "The content is locked and cannot be modified."

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 11.42.37 am.png

This happens on both sides, for the editor in incopy and for me when I updated content back in InDesign. We both work on Mac OS - remote workflow (packaged assignments), ID 10.1.0.71, IC 10.0.0.70.

Could it be the difference in version numbers? The editor checked and there was no other updates for incopy CC 2014.

While clicking 'ok' on the error message seems to accept edits after all it is a real nuisance, and very confusing/disconcerting.

Any help much appreciated.

Error Message: "Unable to lock the following files" when Checking Out Assignment

I'm an editor working with a designer who, based on the tutorials we've read/watched, has properly prepared and exported an InDesign file for me to edit. When I try to check out the assignment, though, I get an error message reading "Unable to lock the following files: [file path]." The designer can check in and out fine, but I can't. Any advice?

How To Stop Two People Editing Same Text

Hi

We're just starting to use InCopy with InDesign in our office.

We're finding that InCopy isnt letting us know when someone else is currently editing text.

Can we set InCopy to display who is currently editing the text by showing their username? (the frame as icons are not showing for anyone)

Can we set InCopy to only allow one person at a time to checkout a text box?

Many thanks,

David

InCopy Saving Issues

I'm hoping someone can help with this. I'm a designer using InDesign working with InCopy editors of a printed publication for a community college. We're using CC 2014 in an assignment-based workflow. I'm on a Mac and editors on Windows. Assignment files are saves on a shared server. Editors have been losing their changes on a regular basis and have lost much work over the last few days and deadlines are looming. They're saving their changes by "Save all content", checking assignment back in, closing the document. When the document is reopened the changes are lost. Today however changes seem to be sticking. We have been using this workflow for years without this issue. I have scoured Google and have not been able to find any posts with this same issue. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated!

I want to do a search/find on the linked text in a large file. I'm unable to so without unlinking all the text, or searching the articles individually. Does anyone know whether there is a way to do this without unlinking the text files?

Can I set up a digital production workflow that incorporates the Creative Cloud subscription version of CC2017 InCopy (Mac) with a designer using CC2015 InDesign (Mac) and a writer using a stand-alone version of InCopy (PC)?

How to place and link an Excel spreadsheet to InCopy file?

I'm trying to place and link an Excel spreadsheet to an InCopy table. Adobe Support available at the following link ...

InCopy Help | Creating tables

states...

"If you want to maintain a link to the spreadsheet, select the Create Links When Placing Text And Spreadsheet Files option in File Handling preference settings."

Although this Create Links option is available within the InDesign edit preferences dialog box, it is not available in the InCopy dialog box.

I'm using InCopy 2017.0 release on a Windows machine.

Formatting imported text

I have an existing InDesign script that places the contents of a document into a temporary TextFrame, applies all necessary formatting and other functions to the new text, and then places it at the selected InsertionPoint.  Works really great in InDesign, but InCopy doesn't seem to have the ability to add the temp TextFrame. Are there any alternatives in InCopy that would make this work on both?

Pasting linked inline graphics from InDesign to InCopy

I am trying to paste some copy from an existing InDesign document into a blank InCopy document. The copy has a linked inline graphic. When I paste into InDesign the graphic does not come across.

I have set Edit - Preferences - Clipboard Handling to "Paste all information" so at least I am now getting the para styles.

Thanks.

Version control with concurrent InCopy and InDesign packages

$

Hi there,

If Editor A uses the "Forward for InCopy" option to create and send an InCopy package (.incp) to Editor B, and then erroneously uses the "Return for InDesign" function to create an InDesign package (.indp) before the Editor B has returned the new version of the package, can the superflous .indp file (that will never be used by anyone) be safely deleted?

The goal is to receive a new .incp file from Editor B and to treat it as the current version of the assignment, even though a .indp was accidentally created in the interim.  Can we simply delete the .indp file or are there other complications that we need to consider?

Thanks.
