Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.

Show/hide tracked changes
The goal is to make sure that View Changes is always on. AFAIK, there's no direct access via javascript, nothing like app.viewPreferences.showNotes = true. I would be very happy to be wrong about that.
So my next move was to script the UI, but the results were inconsistent. So I worked up this snippet to see what's going on:

Starting with a View menu where "Show Changes" is the last command, the script invokes the menuAction as you would expect. But it also returns "Show Changes" as the name of the menuAction. If you look back at the View menu, you'll see that that is not the case: the script has changed it to "Hide Changes" as you would expect. Run the script again, and you'll see that invoke() has not occurred and the name of the menuAction returns correctly as "Hide Changes".
In other words, if you simply look at the View menu before running the script, it all makes sense. But if you use the View menu to switch between Show and Hide changes, it does not. And the whole purpose of the script is to make sure that Show Changes is on, even if the user has manually selected Hide. (The script would run as an event listener whenever a document is opened).
What I think is happening is that Adobe is not rebuilding the menu immediately after the setting is changed in the UI. Maybe not until the user displays the menu again.
If that's the case, I'm stuck unless I can come with a way to force the menu to update at the beginning of the script.

Editing tables in InCopy
In my InCopy layout, I'm having trouble editing tables that were created in InDesign?
Should I have this functionality? Some of the tables in InDesign were not created in the text threads, but in separate text boxes so they could span the 2 column layout in InDesign. Is this why I can't edit them?

Opening .indd files in InCopy
Does anyone know how to open .indd files in InCopy? When I try to do this I can see the Layout View but not the Galley View or Story View, and I can't make any changes to the document.

Indesign Incopy workflow crash!
My indesign incopy workflow consistently crashes!!!
I don't know what to do!
My incopy user updated the incopy file.
I open indesign and try to update the story and it crashes.
I tried to save as an .IDML without updating the files because that's when it crashes but that doesn't work either.
What can I do so I don't lose the changes?????

InDesign CS6 not compatible with InCopy CS5?
Hi,
We've recently upgraded our designer to have the latest edition of the creative suite (CS6), but we've left our editors with their versions of InCopy CS5.... and we've run into a problem.
We get an error message when the editor is trying to open an InDesign layout file in InCopy so they can edit the assignments. DOes anyone know if there is a way to fix the issue without upgrading all of our InCOpy licences to CS6?
ANy help would be fantastic.

InDesign/InCopy workflow errors
Just recently I started to have problems that crashed the InDesign (ID) and/or InCopy (IC) software, in a worflow that have worked well for a few years now. The scenario unfolds with the following steps:
- From an ID document ('doc1'), exported a 'layer' to IC, so that analysts can review and make changes to text. IC stories are saved to a folder located in the same place as the ID document.
- Analyst opens the IC software, then opens the ID 'doc1'. Makes edits, saves and closes the doc and sofware. Good so far.
- Analyst opens the IC software, then try to open the ID 'doc1' but the software crashes. It can not be open.
- Next time analyst open the IC software, even before he tries to open an ID document, a warning pops up with a message saying "InCopy.exe application error. The memory could not be 'read". click OK to terminate...
- If designer tries to open the ID 'doc1' after edits were done in IC, as long as does not allow for automatic update of liks, the doc1 will open, but as soon as trying to update IC links in the links panel, ID will also crash.
The same happen with another analysts working in a different computer with IC software. It seems to me that:
- IC is not able to save the edits to the '.icml' files, creating problems when trying to open the doc1 again in IC or updating the links in ID.
- Working on a network, I have checked with our IT people to ensure all analysts and designers have the same access and permissions. They do. The problem is not that.
- I have tried to rebuild the document in case the first one was corrupt. It worked when very limited text (icml files) where in place, as soon as I added more icml files (conent) and graphics, the document would crash again.
- I have re-installed InCopy in one of the analysts computers and still gives the same errors.
Does anybody experienced this type of error problem or somehow similar? Perhpas a problem with the '.icml' files? If anyone can provide mw with some pointers as to what can I do to troubleshoot I will vey much apprciate their assistance. I have run out of ideas.

Text looks gray in Incopy
I have an Incopy user who when opening an INDD file sees the text as gray. The text has been exported as a story. When she checks the story out, the text appears as black. When she checks it back in, it turns gray again. I've never seen this. I thought it might be a preference, but when I looked in the preference panels I didn't see anything that looked like it would cause this. We're in CS6 (8.0.2)

InCopy/InDesign Track Changes
I just watched the Lynda.com video on tracking changes in InCopy. My question is do the changes need to be accepted to stick? I just want to make sure all the changes stay in. We do not have a one person editor who would accept and reject changes. We just want to see what they were, and who did them.

incopy parts not editable
Just signed up for Adobe Cloud and upgrade version of InCopy to latest. Now having issues being able to edit certain sections of InDesign files. What would cause this?

InCopy Tools Not Working
I cannot use any of the InCopy palette features?
I can switch between tabs on the palettes and access the menu for them, but any item within, such as the character palette I can't access the font menu nor change the font size. And I have this same problem with the character styles and paragraph styles, they are NOT grayed out, but unselectable, like if I click on it nothing happens?
Now the solutions that I have taken have been uninstalling and reinstalling InCopy, plus I have also deleted the preferences (this is on a PC btw).
The weird thing about this problem is that everything works properly when I am logged into the administrator account for this computer, but if I log into the computer using the users username/password, it doesn't work???
If someone can shed some light on this I would VERY much appreciate it, thanks!

Basic InCopy CS6 question (how to export entire InDesign document)
Hi,
Trying to figure out if InCopy CS6 is a good fit for my needs.
I'm making a photo book with many (50+) unlinked captions. i.e.. each caption is its own section, not linked to previous or next text blocks.
I'd like to be able to create ONE master InCopy document with all the different captions in it. Otherwise I'd have to create 50 or more separate InCopy documents.
Is this possible? If I have one text block selected, I can export an InCopy document from InDesign (CS6). But if I de-select the text block, there is no export option.
Would greatly appreciate suggestions on how to manage such a workflow.

IC not work with new version of ID
My designer upgraded to the newest version of inDesign (through CC2014)
When I tried to open any files, I got a message that I had to upgrade my IC or the plug ins. The list of plug ins is as follows:
Spread.rpln
Print.rpln
Generic Page Item.rpln
Document Framework.rpln
My designer tried to remove all plug ins from all files. I still got the message. He created a new file without plug ins. Still no go.
The only solution that helped was to revert to the older inDesign version.
My IC version is 9.2.2 x64

I can [ but I can't ].
This is something that bugs me since at least InCopy CS5 and which isn't fixed as of today. Unfortunately, it is something I use quite often so it's really annoying to me and is a tough hit to my productivity.
When I want to type [ and ], I use shift-alt-( and shift-alt-). It works everywhere on my Mac excepted in InCopy, where I get [ and ». How can I get my ] back?
I'm using Mavericks fully up to date along with Incopy CC, also up to date, and French keyboard.

New to InCopy need basic info
My client has several manuals that have many sections the same throughout. They want to be able to make a copy change in one of the InDesign manual documents and have it update in the others without having to open each one and change it. Will InCopy allow me to do that? Or what is the best solution?

Can't see InDesign layout in InCopy layout mode
We have just installed CS6 and one issue I am having is I can't see the page design when switching to layout mode. I can see the formatting of the story, but not the page the InCopy document is associated with. All of this is on a Mac network. Is there something about InDesign that has to be associated with InCopy in order to see layout mode correctly?
