Text flow problem

We're currently trialing CS5.5 ID and CS5.5 IC. When I 'Package for Incopy' and my editor opens the .icap file sometimes the text flows over by a line or two. I thought I'd pinpointed it down to hypenation but it's also returning  whole words onto the next line causing the text to overrun the text box. Any suggestions as to why this is happening much appreciated. Thanks.

Unable to open files in InCopy6, etc.

We have been using an InDesign/InCopy workflow for a little over a year. Until recently, we were using InDesign5 and InCopy 5.5, and we had no problems opening and working in the assignments. In the last month or two, some of our new freelancers purchased InCopy6, and it quickly became apparent that it was not compatible with files created in InDesign5. They were unable to open packages, or if a package could be opened it ultimately crashed and lost the changes.

We have upgraded across the board: designers all have InDesign6, and editors/copy editors have InCopy6. However, this upgrade has not resolved the problems and, in fact, the problems seem to be increasing. Many of the files still cannot be opened (often, InCopy shuts down when trying to open a file and says "a serious error was detected"); this seems to be happening more with larger files. Also, some projects open but have pages missing from story/galley view.

Our designers say that they are continuing to work and create assignment packages as before, and even our veteran editors and copy editors are having issues. Does anyone have insight into what may be happening and how we can resolve it? At this point, it's getting hard to rely on this workflow.

Story view order?

I'm working on a catalog and created assignments for each product. The order of the InCopy documents in Story view is a little strange some times. I collapsed them all and changed the order, but it creates a Story List.xml file. Is there a way to change the order in Story view (or tell it what order within InDesign) without making those extra files?

Is there a way to copy a text box in InDesign(InCopy) without having the two linked?

I am new to InCopy, but my typical InDesign workflow is to create a page layout I like and duplicate spreads or copy text boxes and edit each accordingly. With everything linked in InCopy if i want to copy (say a picture caption to a different picture) then they are both linked and if I changed the copied text box I inadvertently change the original. Is there a way to make the new box have a distinct link?

InCopy Crashes when exporting PDF

Hi,

I'm a Woodwing partner and we use the Enterprise Server system with SmartConnection plugins for InDesign and InCopy.

When we try to export a PDF in InCopy (layout mode) which have in its contents an image in PDF format that has been generated in x-1a preset the InCopy crashes when reading this pdf.

Generating PDF.PNG

Here our work scenario:

- InCopy CS6 (8.1.1.421)

- InDesign CS6 (8.0.0.370)

- SmartConnection Plugin v8.3.12 Build 283

This problem occurs in windows as in Mac, and also in InCopy CC 2014 / InDesign CC 2014.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

1- Export a PDF in x-1a preset from a document.

2- In InDesign create a Layout and insert this PDF in it.

3- with SmartConnection plugin create the Article from document

Create Article from Document.png

4- Now in InCopy, try to export a PDF in layout mode, and the InCopy will crash when loading the PDF image.

Hi

We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.

We are using the package system.

It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.

If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.

Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.

Thanks

Louise

Copyfit Bar Showing "No Info"

I am an editor working with InCopy on a PC and my colleague in the art department is running InDesign on a Mac. Once we have opened a specific document for design or editing neither program shows information in the copyfit bar that can tell us if we are over or under text. Even when selecting or clicking in a particular section of text, the copyfit bar continues to say "No Info." I have searched online for answers to this issue and haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

Check in doesn't works?

Hello everyone,

Last year I had some problems with a customer.

When person X made a check out on an article, made its corrections, and returns control (check in), it often happened that this article was still shown as being used by X.

I use Dropbox to synchronize files (nothing better to date).

Has anyone ever encountered this problem?

Secondly, what are the problems if I use an Indesign CC version and my client uses an InCopy CS6 version?

Thanks for your help.

InCopy and InDesign can open the same assignment at the same time

Can anybody help me? In InDesign I have created assignments. When the copy writer checks them out, the InDesign Assignments Palette does not update to show that they are checked out and are unavailable to me to edit. Instead they remain marked as available and I am able to check them out at the same time as the copy writer has them open. If the copy writer has multiple assignments checked out, they don't appear as checked out in InDesign until I select ‘Update all assignments’ in the Assignments Palette.

Has anybody come across this before? We can't start using InCopy until this is resolved.

Cheers

Hello.  I am currently working with InCopy CS5 and have an issue with the software crashing when exiting the app. This error reads:

This ONLY happens when working with files on a network share (eiter UNC or mapped drive letter).  Copying the same files locally (c:\temp for example) works just fine.  Not knowing much about CS5, I obtained the files the tester was working with.  There are two fonts missing from the story / project that get replaced with the default font, and it was created with CS3.  Wouldn't suspect corrupt files if working with them locally doesn't have the problem...

For installation, first is the base code from the CS5 disk followed by updates including Bridge 4.0.3, InCopy 7.0.3, Player for Embedding 3.1, Extended Script Toolkit 3.5.1, CS Live Services Update for CS5, and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.2.  All Adobe products are up to date according to the Adobe Applicaiton Manager.  Yes, the workstations have been rebooted.

I don't see anything related in the support forums or through a google search.  Looking for assistance troubleshooting / resolving.  Thanks in advance.

Is InCopy CS6 compatible with InDesign CS5.5?

$

Hello,

We recently upgraded our production team to CS Design Standard 5.5, however, we now need a handful of copies of InCopy for our editors...

Just wanted to make sure that InCopy CS6 and InDesign CS5.5 were playing nice with each other before making the purchase.

Thanks in advance.

Conditional Text Quandary

$
0
0

In Incopy CS6, some editors have experienced a situation wherein they apply a condition to a paragraph of text, including the  return at the end of the paragraph. The next time they check out the story, not only does the original block of text have the condition applied, so does ALL the text that follows that paragraph in the story. This has happened to more than one editor, and I've been able to replicate the problem myself, so I can't blame it on user error. If the return at the end of the paragraph is not included in the condition, this doesn't happen. It only happens when the return is included in the condition.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen.

Thanks.

In InCopy, how can I paste from one InDesign table to another without also copying formatting?

$

I'm attempting to paste information from one indesign document to another, but the styles are different. Pasting without formatting not working in a table. When I paste over, it retains the container style from the original table.

I have "Text Only" selected from my Clipboard Handling preferences, so I'm not sure what else to do. I know I can hit escape to switch to the text selection instead of a container, but this only selects the text from one cell. I'd like to copy over the entire table, instead of copying cell by cell.

How can I paste a table into another, without copying the formatting?

InCopy crashing when opening .ICMA file

Help!

I'm working as an editor and having issues with InCopy crashing on opening the .iCMA file. It was working fine the day before and the files had been checked in. There are a series of .ICML files linking to this main one and throughout this .ICMA file, I am required to check in and out within the different sections relating to the individual .ICML files). So I have to keep opening up Task Manager to 'End Task' for InCopy as the status is showing up as 'Not Responding'.

I spoke with the designer, who has opened in the .ICML files in InDesign and updated changes. Found one of the .ICML files open, and re-linked to update the .ICMA file. (Designer is working off Mac, I'm working off PC and on InCopy CS6).

The .ICMA file window is open in the application and showing the file name with the status as [In Use by......] which is myself and I'm the only one editing the files.

Screenshot 2015-07-17 16.07.48.png

Q. How do I resolve this as I can't actually check the file in as InCopy is frozen.

Q. Is there something that can be done on the designer end as issue with setup or the file itself? Or is it worth uninstalling and installing InCopy?

Q. Have trawled through some forums suggestions but for this situation, does anyone know why this happening to avoid in future i.e. tracked changes, anchors, etc?

Please let me know if there's any other info you require.

Thanks in advance!

FYI, here's the background on what takes place:

When opening the .ICMA file in InCopy, an error message pops up giving you the option of recovering the files [Yes to recover, No to delete recovery data, and Cancel to postpone all document recover until later]. I've tried both options to no avail.

Screenshot 2015-07-17 15.59.12.png

On advice from designer, I click 'No'. Then the missing fonts pop-up box appears which designer also advises to click 'OK' to substitute font until it becomes available. I can't click on 'OK' or the 'Find Font' and the mouse is still operational, and can't access InCopy menu without overcoming this pop-up box.

Screenshot 2015-07-17 16.03.57.png

Monitoring the task manager the InCopy status is 'Not responding' and the usage memory is increasing in number:

hello, have a question:
i never worked with a proofreader online to share the indesign document, so he can proofread and make corrections without touching the design of the catalog.
till now i only had an experience to do it in the same office.

the amount of text is pretty big and the amount of time is pretty short so if it could work would be of great help for the workflow.

do you have any suggestions how to do it and what details to take care about?

Adobe Indesign CC to Adobe InCopy - Story Format is Not Compatible with this Assignment

$
0
0

I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.

First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.

1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.

2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.

3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.

4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.

These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?

I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.error message.JPG

error message2.JPG

This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.
