Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.
Paragraph & Word Count in InCopy
InCopy CC crashes when using track changes
Hi
We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.
We are using the package system.
It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.
If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.
Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.
Thanks
Louise
Track Changes and Collaboration within InCopy
We are looking to create a Microsoft Word Track Change environment within InCopy. We want to easily identify the different editors, and not have to look for minuscule icons for notes. We want to be able to collaborate between the editors — have a way to accept and decline the recommendation. Is there an app, extension, or plug-in to accomplish this outside of having to totally use another publishing managing suite, i.e., vjooon?
InCopy Missing Fonts
I am not an InDesign/InCopy user so my knowledge is limited. A division of our company is adding InCopy to InDesign CS5 to control workflow. I have been called in to help troubleshoot an issue with missing fonts using InCopy.
Example: Mac User (A) creates a layout using InDesign CS5 and saves to network share. We have tested this with or without creating assignments.
Mac User (B) opens layout using InCopy and receives "Missing Fonts" message.
It is our understanding that InCopy took care of this by the use/integration of the Document Fonts Feature. The Document Fonts folder is created and the fonts in the document are in that folder but it is as if InCopy doesn't know where they are.
1. Are we incorrect thinking that InCopy should take care of this (even though it is a bullet point on Adobe's website as a New feature)?
2. If we are correct, then we must be missing something in our process and would like to know if there are step-by-step instructions to make this work.
I saw the post concerning copying fonts to the InCopy fonts folder to work around font issues between Mac and PC but I thought that was taken care of with this New feature as well.
I appreciate any help someone can offer.
"Not Well Formed" and "Junk After Document Element" Errors
We are having InCopy stories that generate errors that I cannot find much information about online. This happens in CS4 and CS5 documents. We have no documents that originated in CS5.5 so I don't know if InCopy CS5.5 will CAUSE the issue, but I know that CS5 files opened in CS 5.5 have seen this issue manifest. Files that are functioning normally at check-in will just open next time with one of these two errors. No crash or strange behavior before suddenly the error appears. We can have dozens of stories in a document (or hundreds) and one will corrupt in this manner. An hour, a day, a week, maybe a month later, another file will die. There seems to be no discrenable pattern.
The errors are "Not Well Formed" and "Junk After Document Element." I can open the .icml files in a text editor and find and (usually) fix the problem, but wonder how the files are corrupting? The "junk after document element" files will have a complete duplicate of the content of the file starting immediatley following the </document> tag. It is as though instead of writing just the changes to the file when checked in, InCopy appends a whole new document, beginning with the <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> tag.
The "not well formed" files appear almost the same, but instead of the document starting over after the </document> tag, it will have a copy of itself inserted willy-nilly in the middle of the file. This one is much harder to fix…
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Can't uninstall CS6 Desktop (not cloud)
I must have download Incopy wrong and want to uninstall it, but it won't let me. I followed all the normal uninstall steps. I says I have another install opens, but I don't think I do. How do I uninstall my InCopy and reinstall it?

InCopy Server Setup Guide?
Hi,
Does anyone please have a link to a decent guide that will explain how to set up a local server - so we can edit our InDesign project on InCopy from different Macs in our office.
Many thanks,
Dave

I see multiple .ic files in a project folder named by the users (email address). What is the correct version?
Adobe Indesign CC to Adobe InCopy - Story Format is Not Compatible with this Assignment
I have been using the InDesign to Incopy workflow for several years and have never seen this error before.
First off - to start, i'll explain some factors that might be causing this error in case it helps with a solution.
1. The original files were created & assigned to InCopy in Adobe InDesign CC 2014 in June, we have all since upgraded to Adobe CC 2015 in early July.
2. The InCopy user on the other end renamed and moved my Indesign files (even though I warned them not to) - causing broken links, double assignments, all of that fun stuff.
3. I have 2 different writers using InCopy, one was using Incopy CC 2015 version and one was using InCopy CC 2014 version - I think there might have been some compatibility problems that caused this.
4. I tried unlinking everything, deleting the assignments folder and starting all over again. That did not work - When I try to create an assignment and then tried to add text boxes to that assignment - it did nothing, sometimes it doesn't even create an assignment file. When I tried to drag the text box to the assignment panel - I got an error saying "A story was not added to the assignment because the story format was not compatible with this assignment" - sometimes it will create a .icml file, but when you try and open it in InCopy - all that comes up is a blank master page telling me there is no content.
These files all were fine before and I was able to assign all of these text boxes without any problem at the beginning, but once the (above things mentioned) all happened - I haven't been able to return these files to a state where I can make them editable in InCopy again for some reason. I haven't changed any kind of formatting - but we did upgrade to Adobe CC 2015 since these files were created - not sure if this is a version compatibility problem?
I am absolutely stumped - anyone have any idea what's causing this? I have collectively probably spent about 4-5 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success.
This doesn't happen with every file, only about 6-8 files that the writer renamed, moved and used an old version of Incopy CC 2014 to open. All of the newer files I have created I can export assignments just fine.
Anyone know a Norwegian Expert in InCopy/workflow?
i'm looking for a Norwegian Expert in InCopy/workflow. Do you know any?
Multiple Fonts
Is there are way to work with multiple fonts/scripts in InCopy, in the Story and Galley View?
Seems like it forces you to choose one font only to view all text in. What if you have multiple languages in different scripts, like Latin characters and Chinese or Arabic characters side by side?
Thanks.
Wifi clashes with Incopy
Hi.
I'm having this problem where I can't work on Indesign CS6 files in Incopy CS6 while I'm connected to wifi. Opening a file takes several minutes, and when it's open I can't save, or Incopy crashes. After going through this several times, with immense frustration, I realized that if I disconnected, everything worked as it should.
The Indesign documents I work with are downloaded from an ftp, and it was suggested that quitting the ftp client – Cyberduck – would help. It didn't. The technician who suggested it thought that Incopy was somehow trying to open documents from the ftp, instead of from my desktop.
I'm running wifi through an Air port Extreme with the help of an Express.
I don't get these troubles with Indesign, but my clients prefer if use Incopy.
Of course I can do my work as the situation is now, the only trouble is I often need to go on the internet to check addresses and facts, and connecting and disconnecting my wifi all the time is a hassle that I shouldn't need to go through.
Anyone have a solution?
when I open a new document, I can't type until I save, close, and reopen (sometimes 5 times)
However, I can paste content into the doc, arrow around, and backspace characters. It just won't allow me to click anywhere or type anything.
Once in a while this doesn't happen. I'd say 9 times out of 10 though.
Sometimes I have to close the document and reopen it 5 or more times! Is this a known issue? How do I fix it? It is becoming a huge nuisance.
how to set preferences to open all documents zoomed 100%
When I open a new document or an existing document, it opens at 50%. So every single time, I have to zoom in to see the text. I don't see an option under preferences that addresses this, unless I'm missing it. How can I get documents to automatically open at 100%?
A row line of 5 cells in 20% black changes color in a few cells to black.
I made an inDesign document with a lot of tables in it. The tables where made with cell and table styles. The row lines have a 20% black color and at the end of the table a line in 50% black marks the end of the table.
The file returned, after being changed in InCopy, with changes of the 50% black lines in some cells to a darker color (full black). So I changed them again to 50% black but the lines changed again just by opening the file in InCopy.
Is there a mistake in the tablestyle or something wrong in inCopy?
InCopy edits not appearing in InDesign
I am sharing a file over Dropbox with an editor.
When he makes text edits I do not see the changes.
As a matter of fact, if he has an assignment file checked out I do not see that either.
We are both using CC2015. I am on a Mac, he is PC.
I have tried to open the file myself in InCopy and edit from the Dropbox location and when I save, close then open the same file with InDesign I get the notification of change.
Are we missing something?
Check in doesn't works?
Hello everyone,
Last year I had some problems with a customer.
When person X made a check out on an article, made its corrections, and returns control (check in), it often happened that this article was still shown as being used by X.
I use Dropbox to synchronize files (nothing better to date).
Has anyone ever encountered this problem?
Secondly, what are the problems if I use an Indesign CC version and my client uses an InCopy CS6 version?
Thanks for your help.
Olivier
Find Format –> Character Colour auto-adjusts to incorrect CMY values. Help?
Hi
I've been having trouble when searching for specific character colours in inCopy.
When I click the swatch I want to search for, the information which is added to the 'Find Format' window is always off by a few units here and there, meaning it doesn't actually search for the colour I'm looking for. This happens even when I choose one of the swatches presented to me when I'm conducting the search.
It's rather frustrating!
If it helps, I'm working on files built in inDesign via assignments. I'm not experienced in inDesign, and I'd say I'm intermediate in inCopy. Both program versions are up to date, as we work from the Creative Cloud.
Any help would be appreciated. In the images below, I clicked the dark blue colour swatch (C=100 M=90 Y=10 K=0). As you can see, it's auto-adjusted it to (C=100 M=89 Y=15 K=1).
1 source file to 2 Indesign docs
Hi
We're trying to place content from one source file (plain text) into 2 different Indesign files (with 2 different paragraph styles).
Problem is the style from indesign file 1 is overriding the style on indesign file 2 and vice versa.
Is it possible to override paragraph/character styles and simply sync the content?
Thanks
