Why can't my copy editors use the page view?

I am using InDesign CS3 on a Mac to lay out pages, and my copy editors are using InCopy CS4 on PC, but they can't see the layout view of pages. All they see is the generic, one-column format. How can we get them to se what actually is on our pages?

InCopy package doesn't lock the story files?

We are trying to create an InCopy CS3 package from an InDesign CS4 file (PC). I can create the package but it still shows the assignments as live and editable with the little package icon as well. If I open the *.indd on a different PC running CS4, everything is checked out like normal. I rebooted the first PC, opened the same *.indd file and it shows a package with everything editable. I've been scratching my head. We won't work in the *.indd file until the InCopy package is returned, but have never seen this in all of the other packages we've created.

Any ideas?

InDesign (CS3) with much newer InCopy

Aloha,

If a file is created in InDesign (CS3) and then sent to an editor who is using a much newer version of InCopy (CS6 or Newer)...once the file is saved by the editor, will the designer in CS3 be able to open the edited file?

InCopy Paragraph Style Keyboard Short cut errors

$

I am using CS 6 and have found the following in InCopy:

  1. I create short cuts for my paragraph and character styles on my Mac OS. For example "CMD" + "1" sets Paragraph style to "Intoduction."
  2. I open the file on my PC also running InCopy CS 6 instead of the keyboard short cuts becoming  "CTRL" + "1" for paragraph style "Introduction" as happens with InDesign they keyboard short cuts become something seemingly random, in may case "CTRL" + "S"

As InCopy doesn't support non-numeric characters for keyboard shortcuts these short cuts no longer work. I have tried the same process using InDesign files and here the keyboard short cuts went from "CMD" + "1"  for the paragraph style "Introduction" to "CTRL" + "1." Is this a known issue or have I made a mistake along the way?

Copy editor using PC new to creating remote workflow with InCopy CC -- please help

When the client sends me an InCopy file, it says I already have the items on the Assignment panel checked out. Is this because he has not "packaged" the files to send to me with the InCopy file, or is there some other reason? When I click on the individual text boxes in the file, it says the text "cannot be located." We are not sharing a server -- can I receive an InCopy document from him, update it with edits and send it back using InCopy CC?

Which creative suite 6 contains InCopy?

Through our company shopping portal we have access to the following products agreed upon under an enterprise agreement with Adobe:

Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium EN

Creative Suite 6 Design Standard EN

Creative Suite 6 Master Collection EN

Creative Suite 6 Production Premium EN

I am trying to figure out which one of the suite types contains Adobe InCopy, as they wish to utilise this product along with InDesign

I notice you can get InCopy by itself in the creative cloud but it is not covered under our agreement

InCopy/InDesign issue

Whenever I open an InCopy document that is linked to InDesign I receive an message that says 'The content is locked and cannot be modified'. I then must keep the return key down for a long time in order to open the file.  In the background another message pops up saying 'Open documents - import snippet'.  It almost seems that I have to acknowledge each text frame. It is nothing to do with 'Checking in/out' content as we have tried both options. Please help!

We are using the CC version of InDesign and InCopy and previously never had this issue.

I want to apply a style to email address in my copy. I used the following in my FindChangeList.txt file, but it's not working for some reason. Could someone help please? Alternatively, if you know how to style the last two lines of any story, that'd be even better! THANK YOU!

text {findWhat:"\@/:[:space:]]+\>@[a-zA-Z_\.]+?\.[a-zA-Z]{2,3}"} {appliedCharacterStyle:"NewsBriefs_Start"} {includeFootnotes:true, includeMasterPages:true, includeHiddenLayers:true, wholeWord:false}

Trying to use package from InCopy user--problems (CS3)

I'm trying to open packages sent to me from an InCopy user and I'm getting the message that the "package file is no longer part of the assignment" and it gives me two options: Ignore packaged version or save packaged version to disk.

I need those edits incorporated into the document. Why doesn't it give me the option to open the package anyway and lose any edits? I actually know that there have been no edits to any of the stories since I sent the package to the InCopy user. I copied the files onto another computer and back, but did not actually open any of them.

Any suggestions?

Periodic failure to echo typed characters in CS2/CS3 InCopy & InDesign

Hi All,

When typing in InCopy the key struck is normally displayed immediately. However, periodically, entered keys are not displayed for a couple of seconds then appear altogether. After that entered text appears normally for a few seconds then the cycle repeats with a few seconds worth of entered keys not displaying then suddenly displaying all at once. Typically I get about 10 seconds of normal response followed by 2-3 seconds of no response as a repeating cycle. Data is not being lost but its display is being delayed. This has also been seen with InDesign CS2

Because of the regularity of this phenomenon I'm wondering if I've unwittingly turned on some feature of InCopy which runs periodically at high priority. Does anyone know of such a feature and how I can turn it off?

Thanks in advance

I'm looking for a trial version of InCopy CS3, not the newer CS4 version. Is there a place where I can still obtain that?

Also, are there significant changes between InCopy CS3 and CS4?

Answers are appreciated!

Adobe InCopy CS4 Missing Fonts...

I have a few users who are dealing with an InCopy file provided by a third party vendor who does their Marketing gazettes and logos, etc... Upon purchasing InCopy CS4, when opening the document provided, they receive a message stating "Missing Fonts" and they include:

Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed
ITC Franklin Gothic (T1) Demi
ITC Franklin Gothic (T1) Heavy
Helvetica Neue (T1) 27 Ultra Light Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 97 Black Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 57 Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 37 Thin Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 57 Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 47 Light Condensed Oblique
Helvetica Neue (T1) 47 Light Condensed
Helvetica Neue (T1) 65 Medium
Helvetica Neue (T1) 77 Bold Condensed

I had went to MyFonts.com and downloaded one to test: Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed. The link to the one that I had purchased is here: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/franklin-gothic/extra-condensed/

The font is installed, but Adobe does not see it. MS Word sees the font fine along with other applications. Did I purchase the wrong font or am I not doing something right with Adobe?

I have been working with this issue for a few weeks now, and are willing to try whatever I can to get the font seen by the application.

Any help with this would be much appreciated, or simliar approaches to the same problem.

I somehow have the document size set at 75%. When I open the document the header gives "filename @75%" I've checked settings for InDesign and the printer to no avail. PDF output is similarly scaled down.

InDesign file saving and exporting S-L-O-W.

I am a designer using the InDesign/InCopy layout workflow. After my last post things were working pretty good for awhile. But now it is taking more than an hour to save over the network. I tried putting everything in the same folder on the network (links and all) and it still took me more than an hour just to relink a placed InCopy story. I am going mad. A week overdue for my first draft and I can't do anything. So today I decided to just  use the package workflow to speed things up. However it still takes as long to create assignments even after I have saved the InDesign file and links to my desktop.

Is there any possibility this is caused by using the last document and saving as new name? Even if I have unlinked all assignments and stories first?

I've tried saving as an inx file but I lock up.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Holly

Incopy file sizes increasing from 106 kb to 4mb

We are using InDesign CS4 to create 4 page docs. The CS4 Incopy links to the CS4 Indesign doc. The Incopy doc is only text, no URLs, images or anything else. But for some strange reason every now and again, upon check in it saves very slowly and starts increasing the file size. Could this be because we use a PC server? Does anyone know any other reason why this could occur? How can we stop it?

Thanks

Random font style, size and color changes in InCopy package file

$

I design a magazine for a local client, sharing files remotely through an ftp server. For the past couple of issues we have been using InCopy to exchange layouts for editing and copyfitting. I put together InCopy assignments, package them as an icap files and upload them to the ftp server. The editor works on the files in InCopy, and exports and uploads an idap files that I then open in InDesign.

We use an extensive and well-tested set of master pages and styles for the magazine design. The new InCopy workflow works great with most of the page layouts in the magazine.

The exception is any layout in which I apply style or color overrides to any of the content in the story. For example, if I override a headline font style, size, or color, the layout will look fine in InDesign, but when the exported icap file is opened in InCopy the layout just goes crazy.

Sections of text -- sometimes several paragraphs downstream from the restyled content -- will randomly change font size, style, and color -- usually picking up one or more of the attributes that I applied to the headline. Because all story frames are linked -- headlines, bylines, body frames, etc. -- this usually creates a domino effect of overflowed frames.

I should mention that all of the content is marked up with XML tags. I have a nagging suspicion that somehow these "invisible" markers are picking up style information and interfering with InCopy's ability to parse the overrides. But that's just a guess. I've tried all kinds of things to fix the problem -- breaking links to styles, reapplying styles, or updating the broken styles in InCopy and forwarding to a second InCopy file. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Uploading the InDesign file to the ftp server so the editor can open it is out of the question. We would simultaneously be working on the same document. I don't want to go there.

Here's a very simple example.

An article in InDesign, with a style override applied to the blue headline on the left:

id20.png

The same article, exported as an icap file and opened in InCopy:

ic20.png

These two pages were opened locally on my computer -- same fonts,  images, etc.

I'm out of ideas and running out of patience. Maybe this is just a  bug. But any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mac OS X 10.6.3, InDesign 6.0.5, InCopy 6.0.5.
