When our designer opens an indesign file and checks out an incopy story for editing, the file size grows very large once the story is checked back in. For example, a story with a file size of 200kb grows to 6,000kb when we check it back in. The incopy file has a lot of conditional text and the indesign file contains many layers and images- could this be the problem? When our editior checks files in and out using only incopy, this issue does not occur. Any advice on how to stop this from happening?

Incopy files not updating
Having a problem with Incopy files not updating after designers on Indesign prepare packages on second round of revisions.
First, the designers create an Indesign file and prepare a newly created Incopy package. The editors are able to open the package for the first time. Editors make changes then repackage for designers. Designer then open package from editors and make necessary changes and then repackage back to the editors. At this point, the editors receive a message to replace when opening package. The files open but it doesn't update all the changes that was originally made to it. It as if it is still using the original assignments from the first newly created package. Also, all the assignments have "?" in the assignment window in Incopy. We are unable to figure out how to update the "?" in Incopy or relink or what ever we need to do at this point.
Several things we checked.
1. Unstuffing the package contents from the designers shows all updated file dates. So we know the package contains the newest updated assignment files.
2. If the designers rename the file names on all the assignments in the assignment folder, then repackage. The files open on Incopy with updated changes. But not if the file name remains the same. Also, if the assignment files are all renamed, it doesn't ask to replace anything on Incopy.
At this point. Our only solution is to rename all the assignment files and repackage. But we shouldn't have to be doing this, especially since it adds time to the designers to repackage the files.

Disappearing notes
I'm having a strange problem with notes in a particular file. The problem first came up when I received the file back from a freelancer, who had been working with the file for several weeks. (We use a Dropbox work flow, and the freelancer had worked for us successfully before.) I couldn't see any of the notes he inserted in the document, even though he could open the file on his computer and all were still visible in the file. (He sent a screen shot to prove this.) I tried to troubleshoot and couldn't find a solution, so I resolved to work around it — but then I opened the file on a coworker's computer, and the notes showed up just fine. I tried again on my computer and lo and behold, they were there — but then, later the same day, the notes had disappeared again (for both my coworker and myself), only we could now see deleted notes (not the text, just the crossed-out arrow boxes). We have no idea what is causing and/or solving this problem. Any advice?
[Note: we are aware of the Hide Notes function -- this is not the problem. Also, we have never worked on the file simultaneously. Notes are visible and working properly in other InCopy files on both of our computers. We are using CS5.5.]
Has anyone had problems with text wrapping not showing up correctly in InCopy?
Designer is using InDesign CS5, version 7, and editor is using InCopy CS5, version 7.0.4. Both on Macs, working remotely through packaging workflow.
InDesign doc and pdf look fine, but when editor opens package, on some pages (not all), where text is meant to wrap around an object, it is not wrapping. Instead white space is left and text gets pushed forward onto next page. In Galley view, a page break occurs at roughly the spot where the text wrapping should be happening, but no page break is there in layout or story view.
Also in this same document, some paragraph styles have changed slightly from what they should be--this is easily fixed, but still a mystery as to why they are coming up incorrectly, even though all fonts are the same, etc.
Would be grateful for help as this is obviously affecting our efficiency and the usefulness of InCopy for our staff.

Paragraph & Word Count in InCopy
Is there a way to count a selected block of text to know how many words and paragraph returns with InCopy? InDesign has the info panel but I can't find an equivelent for InCopy? If not, is there a way to write a script or does one exist to count? I will be doing list of people and always will know the final number and confirming the count will help confirm no one's name was skipped.
InCopy CC crashes when using track changes
Hi
We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.
We are using the package system.
It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.
If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.
Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.
Thanks
Louise
Help! My word count/selection count has disappeared from the bottom of my InCopy window.
Not sure what happened. I had a crash and then when I brought InCopy back up, the word count function had disappeared.I see my text preview settings, and then an option to turn off paragraph styles, and then a "customize" window that only allows me to turn off "text display" or "view options."
I need my word count back! I use it a lot. Any help will be very appreciated.

Seemingly basic questions about InCopy/InDesign
Hello -
I'll start off by saying I am completely new to InCopy. I am a designer and our idea is to create one template that writers could use over and over again for different articles. I have no need to set up assignments because only one writer would be working on an article at a time. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a way to do this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, do all image files need to be placed from the designers side (InDesign) or can a writer place an image themselves within InCopy and use an Object Style created within the original .indd file?
Once again, thank you so much for any help you can spare.
Thanks,
Nathan
"The selected package file requires an InDesign document that cannot be found."
Hello,
I often get this error message "The selected packaged file requires an InDesign document that cannot be found. How do you want to continue?" when opening in InDesign CS5.5
My options are "Browse to locate this document." and "Save the contents of the package to disk."
When I selected "Browse to locate this document." and I located the appropriate InDesign file, it prompts me to browse for the file again. Its a never ended cycle.
I'm not sure how to solve this problem. I'm not familiar with the procedure if I "save the contents of the package to disk." Can someone help me out with this?
Thanks!
EBookExport.InDesignPlugin error on document open
Adobe InCopy CS6 8.0 and 8.0.1
Mac OS X 10.8.2, 10.7.4, and 10.6.8.
I have a file that throws a
"Missing plugin
EBookExport.InDesignPlugin
The document "xxx.indd uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently avaiable on your system. Do you want to open it anyway?"
error on document open. This document has been opened on multiple Macs using the all three of the most recent operating systems listed above. Updating InCopy to 8.0.1 did not change anything.
Interestingly, in Extension Manager, EBookExport.InDesignPlugin does not show up in the list as an available plugin. It is in the InCopy applications folder: Applications/Adobe\ InCopy\ CS6/Plug-Ins/Filters/EBookExport.InDesignPlugin It does show up as an InDesign plugin, and it is loaded…
A clean install of InCopy CS6 from the Adobe disc on a new Mac generates the same error when opening the document. Opening the document in InDesign and exporting to idml, then re-opening makes no difference. Same error.
The root issue here is obviously that the extension is not recognized. I changed permisssions on the folder to no avail. As stated earlier, a fresh install on a new iMac and the extension will not load.
Anyone else seen anything like this?

Strange Hidden Characters
I have several editors who are getting very strange hidden characters appearing occasionally. It's not all the time and there doesn't seem to be a pattern. This started with CS4. They will be working and all of a sudden, all of their hidden characters change from the little dot to these large cross-like symbols. They can quit Incopy and restart and the symbols go away, but it's really a hassle. These editors are working on Macs. Has anyone else seen this?
Why can't my copy editors use the page view?
I am using InDesign CS3 on a Mac to lay out pages, and my copy editors are using InCopy CS4 on PC, but they can't see the layout view of pages. All they see is the generic, one-column format. How can we get them to se what actually is on our pages?
InCopy Assignments - "The Content is locked and cannot be modified."
I've been using Incopy for a magazine we publish every month and since the updates to CC and CC (2014) we seem to have error messages popping up "The content is locked and cannot be modified."
This happens on both sides, for the editor in incopy and for me when I updated content back in InDesign. We both work on Mac OS - remote workflow (packaged assignments), ID 10.1.0.71, IC 10.0.0.70.
Could it be the difference in version numbers? The editor checked and there was no other updates for incopy CC 2014.
While clicking 'ok' on the error message seems to accept edits after all it is a real nuisance, and very confusing/disconcerting.
Any help much appreciated.
I have InCopy 8.0 and i'm trying to update to 8.1.
When I click Help > Updates.. nothing appears.
I've tried unistalling InCopy and reinstalling but still no luck
Editor can't access InDesign file through InCopy CC, while designer is in same file with InDesign CC
Hello,
This is the problem we are having
When a designer opens an InDesign file that is stored on a network share through InDesign, and an editor tries to open the same InDesign file through InCopy, the error message “This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it.” is displayed. To get around this issue, the designer must close out of the file in InDesign, and the editor must open the InDesign file in InCopy before the designer reopens the InDesign file using the InDesign application. This issue did not occur in 9.1. Adobe support has stated that files cannot be used at the same time in InCopy and InDesign, but that is the function that the product was designed to accomplish and this issue has never occurred before. The files are stored on a shared network.
Also, when an editor updates an assignment from InCopy and a designer clicks on the updated assignment to update their view from InDesign, the error message “The content is locked and cannot be modified.” is displayed. If the Designer clicks OK, the view is updated as expected. This occurs even is the assignment is NOT checked out by another user.
Finally, if a designer adds or updates a graphic inside of an InDesign file using InDesign while an editor is editing the file using InCopy, the editor using InCopy will not see the update unless they completely close out of the InCopy application and reopen it, which due to the above problems, is not feasible. The only way the file can be updated in InCopy is for the designer to completely close out of the file, for the editors to then close out, and reopen in InCopy, at which point the designer may reopen the file. If some editors are away from their desks at the time of update, the entire process must be repeated in order for them to be able to open the most recent version of the file in InCopy.
This issue appears to be due to a major flaw in the 9.2 version update for InDesign, as none of these issues occurred before the 9.2 update. One computer currently still has the 9.1 version of InDesign at our company, and does not experience these problems we are having with 9.2. We have tested multiple configurations of our network trying to rule out our network as the problem, but the only case in which we don't experience these problems is when we use InDesign version 9.1. Also, we never experienced this problem before the update of InDesign and InCopy to 9.2.
Thanks!
Graham

InCopy shuts down on startup. 10.9 upgraded from 10.6. Re-installs do not help.
'Go to Page' in InCopy? Via scripting?
Is there a way to get a 'Go to Page' dialog box in InCopy (see InDesign (Layout > Go to Page))? Via scripting?
InCopy 2015 crashing on opening.
One of our users is having issues with her Adobe InCopy 2015 app on her new laptop and the laptop is running Windows 7 Enterprise. When opened the app simply crashes, 'InCopy has stopped working' error appearing over the window. It will then close down and continue to show the same message if we try to open it. We have tried uninstalling the App and Creative Cloud entirely to no effect. As to why this is happening we have no idea. We have another user using the exact same laptop on the desk next to hers, we use an image to make sure all machines are set up the same, and he is having no issues at all with Creative Cloud or InCopy. As said before, we have tried reinstalling Creative Cloud directly from the Adobe website, using her login account for it, and it did not stop the error. We have tried trashing the preferences as well, no change.
