Assignments for InCopy don't include fonts?

$

I am uncertain how InDesign and InCopy are handling fonts. After reading on Adobe.com about InCopy, I thought that using InDesign to send an assignment (an icap-file) via email, it would include all needed files (including fonts), because according to Adobe, the receiver has to worry about nothing, he opens the assignment in InCopy, fonts load automaticaly, all done. But after downloading the demo, some testing and searching on the internet for more information, it seems I was wrong and the receiver must have all needed fonts already installed on his computer or keep them in a "document fonts" folder right next to the icap-file. Is it not possible to include the needed fonts in the icap-file or am I doing it wrong? Is there a box somewhere that needs to be checked for the fonts to be included in the icap-file?

Thanks for any help.

Trying InCopy

Hi

I'm trying to Try out Incopy. I downloaded and ran the Adobe Download Assistant. However, Incopy is not then a subsequent opttion. Rather the download assistant breaks it down in to categories of Web / Design / Video / Photography and Incopy is in none of these? What do I do?

Basic InCopy CS6 question (how to export entire InDesign document)

$

Hi,

Trying to figure out if InCopy CS6 is a good fit for my needs.

I'm making a photo book with many (50+) unlinked captions. i.e.. each caption is its own section, not linked to previous or next text blocks.

I'd like to be able to create ONE master InCopy document with all the different captions in it. Otherwise I'd have to create 50 or more separate InCopy documents.

Is this possible? If I have one text block selected, I can export an InCopy document from InDesign (CS6). But if I de-select the text block, there is no export option.

Would greatly appreciate suggestions on how to manage such a workflow.

Thank you.

InCopy Assignments - "The Content is locked and cannot be modified."

I've been using Incopy for a magazine we publish every month and since the updates to CC and CC (2014) we seem to have error messages popping up "The content is locked and cannot be modified."

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 11.42.37 am.png

This happens on both sides, for the editor in incopy and for me when I updated content back in InDesign. We both work on Mac OS - remote workflow (packaged assignments), ID 10.1.0.71, IC 10.0.0.70.

Could it be the difference in version numbers? The editor checked and there was no other updates for incopy CC 2014.

While clicking 'ok' on the error message seems to accept edits after all it is a real nuisance, and very confusing/disconcerting.

Any help much appreciated.

.icma vs .icml

When I export all stories from my InDesign file I don't always generate an .icma file. Should there always be an .icma file? I don't understand why it happens sometimes and not other times.

Also, can editors work in either the .icml or  the .icma? Sometimes they tell me that without the .icma they can't see the text file to edit.

Thanks for any clarification you can give on this.

InCopy displaying masters instead of pages

Hi guys,

InCopy users (PC) are seeing only the masters pages of a file generated from a InDesign user (Mac) – instead of the actual pages with the stories.

The file is properly setup with a assignment and stories and the whole flow is working fine between Macs (the file):

Screen Shot 2017-08-29 at 19.42.33.png

And this is what the PC users are seeing (the master pages and the Portuguese version of "Because this document contains no InCopy stories, Galley View and Story View are not available.")

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Error when saving/checking in content

Here's my problem. I open the .icma file, which is stored on the server. It opens in InCopy just fine. I check out all content, make a few changes, then do "Save All Content." When I do this, I get an error saying "The following content could not be saved. The files could be locked or you may not have permission to change them." The file appears to save, but then I am unable to check in any of the content. I've restarted InCopy and my computer, and still have the same problem. Indeed, after restarting my computer and opening the .icma file, all the content was marked as check out—by me—with the line through the pencil icon. I am the only one working with these InCopy files; the designer does not have the corresponding InDesign file open.

Cannot open file "". Adobe InCopy may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.

Hello,

I recently made changes to a file and saved it. Then I try to open it again and got this message: Cannot open file "". Adobe InCopy may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.

I thought it might be open elsewhere, so I made a copy file and still can't open that (with name change). There are no hidden files anywhere in the folder.

Can anyone help? I cannot spend more time on it as it's a time urgent project!

InCopy: Find/Change unwanted hyphenation

$

Hi ...

Occasionally I need to locate unwanted hyphenation in text - because I am not the one who created the Paragraph/Character styles.

Some hyphenation is identified in existing search search parameters as:

- Discretionary Hyphen

- Nonbreaking Hyphen

Does either of those refer to hyphens inserted by the style into text?

InCopy limits my ability to create situations where I can test that.

I have searched for the hyphen character, but it doesn't seem to find ones inserted because of the style and fit - only ones that have been keyed in.

Is there another name or symbol set I should be using to search for these?

Thanks,

Rob K

'Unable to Lock File' when attempting to check out InCopy text from ID CS3!

The Scenario:
The InCopy file (incx) is created by the editor (using InCopy CS3 on a Mac). He puts the .incx file onto a remote server (a G5 Mac) where it will stay throughout the duration of the project. I (the designer, using InDesign CS3 on a Mac) can also access this remote server, and I import the .incx file into an InDesign document. All Macs are running OS X 10.4.11.

The Problem:
When I attempt to check out the assignment from the Assignments window, I get the error message "Unable to Lock File..." followed by the path to the .incx file on the mounted remote volume.

If I put the .incx file onto my computer first, then import it, everything works fine. But that scenario won't work for us. The editor needs to be able to edit the text at all times, and we have another designer that will be working on the files as well, so we need to have the .incx file stay on that remote server.

As a test, I did this whole thing using the same files on a Mac running InDesign CS2, and everything worked perfectly, no problems.

What am I missing here? Please tell me that CS3 didn't downgrade the ability to work remotely with InCopy.

Thank you for any help in this matter.

InCopy workflow for newspaper

We are a small weekly newspaper using Indesign CS3. We want to adopt a workflow using InCopy CS3 that will benefit all users. One goal is to be able to archive newsroom stories to our website that include the main story, headlines and all text associated with that story without too much user intervention if possible. Can anyone suggest an InCopy workflow solution for us?

Getting DOC, TXT, RTF into inCopy

$

I'd like to get a batch of DOC, TXT and RTF files into inCopy with specific style available after the text is available in a new IC file. I have the styles I want available for a new IC file. I select "New" and then Place. If I drag a file on to the IC icon in the doc or open a file via the Open dialog, the style pallet is blank. I can also place files in InDesign and export them to InCopy and have the styles that way. Is there any way to batch convert the source files to IC with a specific set of styles? I know I can import style, but that is a file-by-file process.

Any ideas?

I can't delete or edit text in a new document...or in an assingment...

I have a problem with InCopy CS4...when I create a new document and I try to delete the text, I can't do it... even when I edit an assignment from InDesign CS4.

The only way that I can delete the text is on the Layout view, or directly on InDesign.

InDesign file saving and exporting S-L-O-W.

I am a designer using the InDesign/InCopy layout workflow. After my last post things were working pretty good for awhile. But now it is taking more than an hour to save over the network. I tried putting everything in the same folder on the network (links and all) and it still took me more than an hour just to relink a placed InCopy story. I am going mad. A week overdue for my first draft and I can't do anything. So today I decided to just  use the package workflow to speed things up. However it still takes as long to create assignments even after I have saved the InDesign file and links to my desktop.

Is there any possibility this is caused by using the last document and saving as new name? Even if I have unlinked all assignments and stories first?

I've tried saving as an inx file but I lock up.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Holly

Incopy CS5 Images printed are pixelated

Is there a way I can print an incopy story in layout view where it doesn't print in low quality?  I tried setting the display performance to high quality display and that made no difference in the print out.  For something that should seem so easy to figure out, I couldn't find a solution in the incopy online help pdf.
